We really had no idea what 2020 would bring, did we?

As most&nbsp;museums have&nbsp;temporarly&nbsp;<a href="https://www.lofficielusa.com/art/the-work-of-felix-gonzalez-torres-revived-by-david-zwirner-gallery">closed</a> down because of the pandemic,exhibits now make up&nbsp;virtual spaces instead of physical ones. While the art world&#39;s response to the virus has proven to be <a href="https://www.lofficielusa.com/art/brooke-wise-quarantine-coloring-book">innovative</a> in quite some ways, there is something about experiencing art in person that the internet can&#39;t fulfill. It is hard to ignore that 2020 has so far been an anomoly of a year. Commissioned by Fondazione Prada for its Milan venue, Whether Line, the large-scale multimedia installation, conceived by Lizzie Fitch (USA, 1981) and Ryan Trecartin (USA, 1981), represents the first output of a creative process begun in late 2016, investigating the ongoing promise of &ldquo;new&rdquo; field and the inherent instability of territorial appropriation.

Ranging&nbsp;from works on pa&shy;per that Wade Guy&shy;ton refers to as&nbsp;&ldquo;draw&shy;ings&rdquo; to pho&shy;tog&shy;ra&shy;phy, sculp&shy;ture to&nbsp;his ground&shy;break&shy;ing ink&shy;jet paint&shy;ings.&nbsp;

Inspired by the history of the exhibition venue, Palazzo delle Prigioni, which first served as a prison in the sixteenth century. The work&nbsp;speaks to the realities of imprisonment that is constructed physically and by the presence of digital surveillance mechanisms. In light of these folded conditions, the artist transforms the Prigioni into a high-tech surveillance system to rethink how contemporary technologies of communication and surveillance are shaping identities.

Manual Override&nbsp;features five artists&mdash;Morehshin Allahyari, Simon Fujiwara, Lynn Hershman Leeson, Sondra Perry, Martine Syms&mdash;who critique the social, cultural, and ethical issues associated with&nbsp;emerging technological systems and infrastructures ranging from mass surveillance to predictive policing.

MANUAL OVERRIDE, THE SHED, NYC

Entitled Futuristic Lesbian&nbsp;the show included large, twisted, silicone sculptures full of found objects, pins, glitter and junk. Cajsa von Zeipel&rsquo;s technical prowess resurfaced&nbsp;in these extraterrestrial sculptures where she&nbsp;left reference to classical sculpture and layered it with an even more complex, and current&nbsp;technique.

The first exhibition dedicated to Sturtevant&rsquo;s video works in Los Angeles. Featuring works produced from 1999 to 2012, including those rarely seen, this exhibition focuses on Sturtevant&rsquo;s questioning&nbsp;of the &ldquo;cybernetic&rdquo; and &ldquo;virtual reality&rdquo; during an unprecedented period of technological transformation.
