I swapped out my Dyson Airwrap for the new Shark Glam for a month&mdash;here's my honest review.

I didn&rsquo;t know what <a href="https://www.lofficielusa.com/shopping/clarifying-shampoo-for-curly-hair-shop">healthy hair</a> actually meant until I met Shark Glam. From a beauty writer and longtime beauty lover, that may sound counterintuitive. Don&rsquo;t get me wrong, I can spot heat damage or over-bleaching from a mile away. But my standards, at least for my own hair, were apparently far less rigorous. For most of my decade-long beauty obsession, I&rsquo;ve focused almost entirely on makeup and skin care. Call it an overcorrection&mdash;your face is the first thing you see in the mirror, after all&mdash;but it took hitting my 20s for me to realize that hair is just as important, if not more so.&nbsp;
Full transparency: my naturally straight hair has always been pretty low-maintenance. My concerns centered around my eczema-prone scalp and how quickly my roots got greasy. For years, my so-called &ldquo;<a href="https://www.lofficielusa.com/beauty/hair-growth-oil">haircare routine</a>&rdquo; was nothing more than a scalp-balancing shampoo and <a href="https://www.lofficielusa.com/beauty/guide-to-hair-straightening-treatments">keratin conditioner from Korea</a>. Styling meant blow-drying and moving on with my day (unless it was a special occasion, in which case I begged my mom or girlfriends to curl my hair for me). To this day, I shamefully have never gotten around to mastering a straightener or curling iron without burning the sides of my face.&nbsp;
Then it finally hit me: if I was spending three figures every few months balayaging my hair, why wasn&rsquo;t I putting the same effort into styling it? So after years of completely neglecting my hair, I finally caved to virality and got my hands on the <a href="https://www.dyson.com/hair-care/hair-stylers/airwrap-id/straight-wavy-prussian-blue-bright-copper#inthebox">Dyson Airwrap</a> back in 2023.&nbsp;

I was immediately hooked. I&rsquo;d had a newfound enjoyment in curling my hair and using the round brush for a <a href="https://www.lofficielusa.com/beauty/at-home-blowout-best-products-hair-tools">bouncy, salon-like blowout</a>. I traveled everywhere with it (as long as the voltage matched). And the versatile flyaway attachment? A game-changer. It meant no bulky hair dryer and no sad hotel blowers frying my hair. I even convinced my mom in the Philippines to get one for herself&mdash;admittedly so I&rsquo;d have access when I visited home. For someone irreversibly hopeless with hot tools, the Dyson Airwrap was a dream come true.&nbsp;
But, of course, the price tag is its biggest flaw. $600 is a serious splurge, no matter how many attachments come with it. That&rsquo;s the sticking point for most people, which is why competitors like Shark Beauty have stepped in with more affordable alternatives. Even TikTok shop has their fair share of dupes.&nbsp;
I figured I was set with my Dyson, so I never gave the alternatives much thought in my own routine&mdash;until last month, when Shark Beauty launched an updated version of its multi-styler. In the brand&rsquo;s release, it promised <a href="https://www.lofficielusa.com/beauty/tips-to-protect-your-hair-from-heat-damage">no heat damage</a>, which immediately raised my eyebrow. What hot tool could possibly make that claim? Still, I was curious enough to request a sample and put it to the test.&nbsp;
For the past month, I swapped out my beloved Dyson Airwrap for the new Shark Glam. Ahead, my review for L&rsquo;OFFICIEL.&nbsp;

What immediately stood out to me was the hair dryer attachment. When I bought my Dyson Airwrap in 2023, it didn&rsquo;t include a standalone dryer. Instead, I relied on the middle portion of the anti-flyaway attachment whenever I traveled. It got the job done and left my hair smoother, but it took noticeably longer to dry&mdash;a palpable irritation when I was on the go. At home, I usually opted for my Dyson Supersonic hair dryer instead.&nbsp;
This year, Dyson updated the Airwrap with a dedicated fast-drying attachment (though I still don&rsquo;t understand why my version skipped it, considering the original 2018 model had something similar). That said, I haven&rsquo;t personally tried the newer version, but for anyone seriously considering investing in the Airwrap now, it&rsquo;s a big win.&nbsp;
Shark Glam, on the other hand, comes with a classic concentrator nozzle. So far, I&rsquo;ve been impressed with how quickly it dries my hair&mdash;just as fast as the Dyson Supersonic, but with a sleeker, more tamed finish.

<h2 style="text-align: center;">Shark Glam vs. Dyson Airwrap: Anti-Flyaway Attachment</h2>

As for the anti-flyaway attachments on both the Dyson Airwrap and Shark Glam, the end result is basically the same&mdash;smooth, polished strands, at least on my straight hair. The real difference is usability. The Airwrap&rsquo;s tool took some trial and error to figure out, partly because it doubles as both a dryer and an anti-flyaway solution. You have to twist the setting to direct airflow one way or the other, with the middle option serving as a makeshift dryer.
The Airwrap&rsquo;s version also grips fewer strands at a time, which makes the process more time-consuming if flyaways are a big concern. Personally, I usually manage mine with a round brush, so it wasn&rsquo;t a dealbreaker. But if stubborn flyaways are a constant battle for you, Shark Glam&rsquo;s simpler nozzle design may be the more practical choice.

Then there&rsquo;s the straightener. The Dyson Airwrap comes with an anti-snag loop brush that mimics a regular hairbrush, and the newer, more expensive Airwrap Coanda version also adds an air-smoothing attachment. Shark Glam, on the other hand, includes an air-straightener you can use even on damp hair. (Dyson does sell a similar standalone device for $550, <a href="https://www.sephora.com/product/airstrait-tm-wet-to-dry-straightener-P515986?skuId=2865335&amp;icid2=products%20grid:p515986:product" target="_blank" rel="noopener">the Airstrait</a>, but Shark Glam builds its version directly into the kit).&nbsp;
I don&rsquo;t personally own an Airstrait, but based on mixed TikTok reviews, the biggest complaint seems to be that while it straightens hair quickly from wet to dry in just a couple of passes, it offers little control over the ends&mdash;often leaving them looking simply flat.
With the Shark Glam, I found it took more than one pass to achieve that sleek, flatironed effect, even with my naturally straight hair. Still, once I got past the initial learning curve (there&rsquo;s definitely a trial period with both tools), I appreciated being able to add a subtle swoop at the ends. It&rsquo;s not as precise or dramatic as a classic hot plate, but it does the job for an everyday, polished look.

Now, onto the attachment I use most with both devices: the round brush. The key difference is shape&mdash;Shark Glam&rsquo;s is slightly flatter, more like the cult-favorite Revlon blow-dry brush, while Dyson Airwrap&rsquo;s is fully circular.
What I love about the Shark Glam&rsquo;s brush is how seamlessly it glides through hair. It doesn&rsquo;t snag, tug, or break strands the way the Airwrap always does&mdash;something I didn&rsquo;t realize bothered me until I tried Shark&rsquo;s version. The trade-off? Less control over bounce at the ends, since the brush isn&rsquo;t as rounded.
That said, I&rsquo;m willing to tolerate the flatter finish. On rushed mornings, I&rsquo;ll just twist my hair into a bun for 15 minutes to fake a curled effect, and when I have more time, I&rsquo;ll set it with grip rollers for extra shape. Still, I&rsquo;m holding out hope that Shark eventually launches a more rounded attachment to deliver the soft, bouncy volume I love from the Airwrap.

Again, for someone who never mastered a curling iron, the curling barrels on both devices feel like a game-changer. I could finally go beyond wearing my hair pin-straight.
That said, they&rsquo;re not perfect. While they&rsquo;re a lifesaver for anyone who struggles with traditional hot tools, the curls don&rsquo;t last very long. On me, they usually fall flat by day two&mdash;and on windy days, they can be gone within hours, even with hairspray. To be fair, these are air-powered curls, so lasting power isn&rsquo;t their strong suit. You also sacrifice some control over direction and which sections you want to emphasize.
The key difference lies in the options. The Airwrap lets you switch airflow direction with a twist and comes with two barrel sizes, so you can choose between tighter curls and looser, more natural waves. Shark Glam, by contrast, only offers one barrel size that leans natural, and you have to swap between two separate attachments for left and right curls. The result is still pretty and a lot smoother than the Airwrap, but the process is significantly more time-consuming.

As a loyalist whose first real introduction to hairstyling was with the Dyson Airwrap, it&rsquo;s hard for me to admit this&mdash;but if I had to pick just one device to use for the rest of my life, I&rsquo;d choose the Shark Glam.
The round brush alone has been a game-changer. Again, it glides through my hair without the tugging and snagging I&rsquo;d grown used to with the Airwrap, and the difference shows: my hair looks far less dry and damaged, with noticeably less breakage at the crown. This past month, the only change in my routine has been using Shark Glam, and already, friends and family have commented on how much healthier my hair looks.
Factor in the healthier finish, the complete set of attachments (including the air-straightener), and the fact that it costs $200&ndash;$300 less than the Airwrap, the Shark Glam feels like a steal. My only real gripe is that switching between the two heat settings takes about 20&ndash;30 seconds, which can be irritating when I&rsquo;m in a rush.
To be fair, the Airwrap still wins when it comes to curls&mdash;it offers two barrel sizes and lets you switch curl directions without swapping attachments, which is worth considering if curls are your main priority. So, if you already own an Airwrap, I wouldn&rsquo;t say it&rsquo;s worth trading it in for Shark Glam unless you&rsquo;re willing to splurge. But if you&rsquo;re deciding between the two? Shark Glam is the smarter buy.
That said, I&rsquo;m not giving up my Airwrap&mdash;mostly because I'd already invested in it, and partly because its curling barrels still deliver. But day-to-day, and especially when I travel, I&rsquo;ll be reaching for Shark Glam from now on.
