Should You Try TikTok's 'Hair Botox' Trend?

But don’t fret – new hair products are now marketing themselves as Botox for hair, a trend which is supposed to help fill, smooth, and reduce the frizziness of your hair.

Although “Botox” is in its name, there’s actually no Botox in hair Botox, and it doesn’t require injections – perfect for those that would rather not deal with needles. Hair Botox is a deep-conditioning hair treatment that is said to make your hair silky smooth just like the effects of Botox on your skin. It repairs the damaged and broken fibers of your hair which might be due to the stress and heat put on your hair. The treatment fills in broken or thin areas on each strand of hair to make it appear fuller. 

Unlike keratin treatments – a chemical treatment that smooths hair and eliminates frizz – hair Botox is a non-chemical, deep-conditioning treatment that allows your hair to feel smoother, hydrated, and moisturized. It feeds your hair natural ingredients and is overall is considered safe for any type of hair.

Benefits

There is no set criteria in a treatment for it to be considered “hair Botox,” since the ingredients vary based on the brand of the product. However, a few common components found in a hair Botox treatments consist of caviar oil, antioxidants, B5, Vitamin E, and collagen complex. 

Caviar oil contains vitamins important for fighting free-radical damage, and hair Botox contains antioxidants, B5, and Vitamin E which all fight free radicals. Collagen is a protein which is crucial for dry, broken, brittle, or damaged hair due to chemical processes and heat styling. This treatment restores softness and shine to hair in need of nourishing oils.

Cost

The price of a hair Botox treatments vary depending on where you go to get it done, but on average, a session could cost between $100 to $300. You can also purchase products to apply and do yourself at home.

Final Thoughts

While hair Botox doesn’t actually use any Botox, it gives plenty of natural, nourishing ingredients to your hair. Vitamins, antioxidants, and protein are all combined to repair damage, fight oxidative stress, restore each strand of hair, and replenish your hair's natural shine.
