<p>For Spring/Summer 2027, Matthieu Blazy continues his dialogue with Gabrielle Chanel through <em>The Conversation – Part Three – Different Faces of the Same Coin</em>. He looks beyond the house’s archives to explore the different stages of her life and how they shaped her approach to dressing. “The child I was is with me today,” Chanel once wrote. That idea guides Blazy’s collection, which considers how a woman’s past continues to influence who she becomes.</p>
<p>The collection traces Chanel’s evolution, from her early work with jersey to her designs after the war. Simple jersey underwear opens the show, while suits worn directly against bare skin bring it to a close. In between, Blazy examines the restrictive clothes Chanel grew up with and the freedom of movement she later brought to women’s wardrobes.</p>
<p>Hints of those earlier silhouettes appear throughout: corset boning, peplums, shaped collars, and curved bodices. Blazy takes them apart and reworks them, adapting elements of men’s tailoring for women. He strips back formal suits, turns jackets into vests, pairs them with trousers, and reshapes them into pencil-skirt suits.</p>
<p>Eveningwear receives the same treatment. Sequined, bias-cut gowns inspired by the 1930s, along with knitted and beaded pieces, have the relaxed ease of a T-shirt. Precise tailoring sits alongside fluid fabrics, giving women room to move between different moods and ways of dressing.</p>

<p>The collection’s softer looks evoke clouds moving across the sky. Layers of sheer printed silk, in different weights and textures, create shifting effects that recall morning light, golden hour, and nightfall. Birds reinforce this sense of freedom: swifts and swallows appear on buttons, jewelry, and embroidery, while woven and knitted fabrics give the clothes shape and movement. The idea carries through to how the pieces feel, allowing the body to move freely.</p>
<p>The closing looks introduce “smocked tweed,” which brings new flexibility to one of Chanel’s signature materials. Light and stretchy, it moves with the wearer while retaining the structure of tailoring. Following the underwear that opens the show, these suits return to Chanel’s longstanding focus on comfort and ease.</p>
<p>The accessories also connect different moments in the house’s history. Model Dyanira Hurbuscher carries the 2.55 bag at both the beginning and end of the show, while classic and new flap bags appear throughout. Cloud-like bags echo the airy silk looks, and a birdcage minaudière continues the collection’s bird imagery, with birds seemingly ready to take flight.</p>
<p>“This isn’t a historical collection; it’s a collection about the overlapping stories of Gabrielle Chanel,” says Matthieu Blazy. He explores how each stage of her life informed the next, from the restrictive clothes of her youth to the freedom she introduced through her own designs. The bird escaping its cage at the end offers a fitting conclusion to a collection about a woman who kept reinventing herself.</p>
