Dior Launches 'The New Era' with Fall/Winter 2022 Collection
Dior's Fall/Winter 2022 collection is all about the future and technology.
The Dior Fall/Winter 2022 collection began in complete darkness. The runway was quickly illuminated by a figure covered in glowing organic linework. Soon, lights came on and the eye-catching look was unveiled as a form-fitting one-piece black unitard. This look was created in collaboration with D-Air Lab, an innovative startup that finds new ways to use airbag technology to protect researchers and experiments.
Still sticking with classic tulle manipulations, lace, and structured corsets, Maria Grazia Chiuri’s collection found a new space between Dior's cherished timeless pieces and a new futuristic mentality. One ensemble included intense leather gloves labeled "The New Era," while other flowy garments were paired with D-Lab constructions.
Unlike past collections inspired by tarot cards, zodiac signs, or different artistic movements, Chiuri's latest creation responds to the ever-growing conversations about the future of technology in fashion and the metaverse.
For models, the dress code included tight buns topped with headbands, and many donned a single dangling earring. The hair was perfected by legendary Guido Paulau, and makeup was headed by long-time Dior favorite Peter Phillips.
In the audience, VIPs included Rihanna (who arrived in a black lace bra and thong set, boldly showing off her baby bump in the most Bad Girl RiRi way possible), Yara Shahidi, Farida Khelfa, Dior ambassador Anya Taylor-Joy, and Blackpink's Jisoo.
