Kim Jones Makes Ready-to-Wear Debut at Fendi for Fall/Winter 2021
After a successful debut at Fendi with his Spring/Summer 2021 Haute Couture show, Kim Jones unveils his first ready-to-wear collection for Fall/Winter 2021 with a series of pieces that blend Jones' own creative vision with some of the House's signature codes. As Creative Director of Dior Men, Jones was known for his sharp tailoring and imaginative concepts. Here, he applies the same ideas to womenswear, designing a collection of luxurious garments, suitable for every occasion, that circles the bandwagon of muted pink, nudes, and greys.
To christen a new era of the House of Fendi, Jones' collection pays homage to the legends that preceded him. "The Fendi family are women of intellect who work hard – and that’s what I wanted to celebrate,” says the designer. “A powerful dynasty.” The fur coats and pinstripe notifs reference the early style of the five Fendi sisters. Silvia Venturini Fendi's signature shirt jacket has been reconfigured into a ruggedly chic shearling. Jones continues, "I’m taking the amazing, strong women who I both know and work with, and listening to their needs. There’s a usefulness to the collection, explored in a chic, timeless way." The designer also referenced one of the brand's most iconic leaders, Karl Lagerfeld, with subtle inclusions of the Karligraphy monogram, as well as a reimagined version of the Fendi First shoe.
However, overall, the collection is completely Jones. Not only does the audience note his signature pension for clean lines and rich texture, but his use of discreet embroidery, reflective silk ensembles, and minute floral detailing call back to his own work within the brand's legacy from his Spring/Summer 2021 Haute Couture collection.
