Lil Nas X Talks NYFW Essentials While Getting Ready for the Coach Show
The rapper gives L'OFFICIEL the inside scoop on how he preps for NYFW.
Lil Nas X is kicking off New York Fashion Week with a bang. Last year, he closed the Coach runway show, but this time around, the rapper sat Front Row at the brand's Spring/Summer 2024 show, held in the New York Public Library's flagship location at Bryant Park. The collection marked Creative Director Stuart Vevers' 10th anniversary with the brand, an exciting milestone for the designer and his collaborators. As one of music's most fashionable figures, L'OFFICIEL spoke to the "Montero" artist about his NYFW essentials, his relationship with Coach, and what to expect from his upcoming documentary.
L'OFFICIEL: What's your favorite part about NYFW?
Lil Nas X: My favorite part is the whole vibe and energy of fashion week in general. It’s really fun to run around from party to party and wear all these really sick looks and randomly run into friends and stuff. The shows are always really inspiring too.
L’O: What's your favorite thing to see or do when you're in NYC?
LNX: Whenever I have free time here, I love to just roam around and walk the streets and see what I come across.
L’O: What are your fashion week essentials?
LNX: Amazing looks. A nice robe. A party bus. My cats. My phone.
L’O: How do you wind down after a long day of fashion shows?
LNX: Stopping at a random pizza place and grabbing some late night food with my friends and my team.
L’O: What is it about Coach that speaks to your personal style?
LNX: I love how playful and fluid but classic the Coach designs are, and those are things I like to give in a lot of my looks too.
L’O: Stuart Vevers is celebrating 10 years at Coach this season. What was your style like 10 years ago? Do you have any fashion regrets from back then? Or a trend you'd like to bring back?
LNX: 10 years ago I was in high school and I just wore a lot of t-shirts and jeans honestly. I don’t have any specific regrets but there are definitely some looks I look back on and I’m like “Oh no…I thought I was so cool…”
L’O: Your documentary is premiering in Toronto this month. What can you tease about the project?
LNX: The documentary shows a lot of behind-the-scenes moments when I was preparing and going on my first tour ever. A lot of growth happened on that tour and I’m really proud of it. People will definitely see a whole new side of me and get to know me a lot better after watching it.
