Marni's Fall/Winter 2021 Collection is a Romantic Protest
In a moment where shows are mostly online-only, Marni creative director Francesco Risso seeks to rethink romanticism for the digital era. In an effort to create a feeling of intimacy, Risso presented the Fall/Winter 2021 collection via a series of videos where models shared in joyful meals together, a reminder of pre-pandemic life. The clothes are equal parts cozy and fantastical, featuring lace-up sneakers with pointed toes, capes fashioned from puffer coat material, and colorful crochet knit sets.
"This Marni collection took shape as a romantic ode to dressmaking at its most tactile and intimate," says the designer in his show notes. "Romanticism feels more powerful than any form of protest: a way to delve into reality with another gaze and another touch, finding another meaning to the everyday."
