Prabal Gurung's Manifesto for Spring/Summer 2022
For NYFW, Prabal Gurung proposes a reflection on the vulnerability of women.
Prabal Gurung wants to make it clear that he is an ally of women. In a manifesto released shortly before his Spring/Summer 2022 show at NYFW, the stylist proposed a major reflection on all the forces behind a so-called female vulnerability; how society has always strived to put them in the background and the need to review the signs of power that naturally come attached to them — especially, of course, women and their aesthetics. That's why Gurung activates the codes of American fashion for a collection without big constructions or elaborate shapes, looking for an easy and comfortable sexy.
Their minimalism sets the tone for monochrome dresses and tailoring worn with florals (for which Gurung is known) and gingham, while the vocation of sportswear is embraced in coats and pieces with detachable cutouts. Trend alert: the stylist is another one who applies the bold tones and almost reflective neons which should keep popping up during the Spring/Summer 2022 season.
