From 'The Blue Cloak 1559' to the Co-Ed Fashion of Raf Simons
Ancient inspirations, clubwear, and surrealism. The Raf Simons Fall/Winter 2022 men's and women's collection presented with a digital fashion show off the fashion week calendars.
Raf Simons presented his co-ed Fall/Winter 2022 collection with a digital show. As a teasing of the show on Raf Simons' official Instagram account, short videos appeared that exposed the new inspirations of the show including the Dutch proverb The Blue Cloak 1559 which reads, "She puts the blue cloak on her husband, or to change his mind according to the imagination." In the same way, the Belgian designer interprets the proverb for the Fall/Winter 2022 men's and women's collection in a literal and metaphorical way.
Everything was created to tickle the imagination, a tale made up of creative whims and glamorous accents. Starting from the hoods with a soft and sensorial touch, the enveloping cloaks and the sleeveless knitwear dresses are designed to bring back pictorial trompe-l'œil. Dresses, catsuits, trench coats, and outerwear made with shiny varnished or vinyl, are combined with high boots with shaped heels. To complete the look, the collaboration on the hats and headpieces was designed by the British Stephen Jones. It doesn't matter if the collection might seem too risky or complex but Simons' incredible aesthetic and attitude shines through.
