Alexander Wang’s first collection since ditching the standard fashion month schedule was shown on Sunday night on a rooftop at New York’s Pier 17. Wang titled it "Collection 1," debuting his new presentation strategy for the brand, which will only have two co-ed shows per year, in June and December.

At the show, each seat had a note from Wang, announcing, “A new beginning, a new identity and a new day," but Wang stayed true to his usual aesthetic of high-end sportswear meets model-off-duty, only this time with a biker/rockstar twist reminiscent of Rock of Love with Bret Michaels.

Bella Hadid and Kaia Gerber walked down the runway in paisley bandanas, leather/lace bras, and bolo ties. Think Kid Rock, but fashion. The collection also featured army boots, stacked belts, and safety pin corsets we'll be sure to see come festival season and FYI, Oakley sunglasses are now in. Of course, Wang also stuck to his script with an array of large namesake logos on waistbands and mesh tops.

The theme of the show was an homage to “Immigrant Americana” and to Wang’s own Chinese heritage. He fused chinoiserie and classic American styles in the form of accessories including crystallized "Thank You" shopping bags, embellished surgical face masks, and Harley Davidson-inspired suits. Despite the current political climate, Wang displayed his love for New York and his optimism for the future. It was one of many critical fashion moments we need now more than ever.
