The first Black male model to walk for Karl Lagerfeld&rsquo;s Chanel honored the late designer in bridal couture.

Arguably the best-dressed man on last night's Met Gala carpet was model <a href="https://www.lofficielusa.com/men/alton-mason-summer-cover-2019" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Alton Mason</a>. A guest of <a href="https://www.lofficielusa.com/fashion/cara-delevigne-2023-met-gala-arrival" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Karl Lagerfeld</a>&rsquo;s eponymous brand, the 25-year-old stole our hearts as a <a href="https://www.lofficielusa.com/fashion/chanel-most-iconic-wedding-dresses-wedding-season" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Chanel bride</a> in custom Karl Lagerfeld <a href="https://www.lofficielusa.com/fashion/couture-menswear-shapes" target="_blank" rel="noopener">haute couture</a> by Hun Kim. The look was highly symbolic, given that Mason was the first Black male model to ever walk for the <a href="https://www.lofficielusa.com/fashion/chanel-spring-summer-2023-haute-couture-collection-runway-images" target="_blank" rel="noopener">French House</a>.&nbsp;

The all-lace ensemble featured delicate <a href="https://www.lofficielusa.com/fashion/fendi-spring-summer-2023-haute-couture-show-runway-collection" target="_blank" rel="noopener">floral applique</a> on a skin-tight silhouette, modernizing classic <a href="https://www.lofficielusa.com/fashion/finale-bridal-looks-runway-haute-couture-luxury-chanel-vivienne-westwood" target="_blank" rel="noopener">bridal</a> motifs with an elevated couture flare. His chunky <a href="https://www.lofficielusa.com/shopping/knee-high-boots-style-fashion-shopping" target="_blank" rel="noopener">knee-high boots,</a>&nbsp;custom designed by <a href="https://www.instagram.com/sunnisunnistudio/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Sunni Dixon</a>, jutted out at the calf, whose width was offset by <a href="https://www.lofficielusa.com/fashion/elle-fanning-sculptural-trend-balmain-instyle-awards" target="_blank" rel="noopener">sculptural</a> shoulders which culminated in a high-necked collar. Mason&rsquo;s <a href="https://www.lofficielusa.com/fashion/bridal-trends-fall-2023-wedding-dress" target="_blank" rel="noopener">bridal</a> transformation was completed by a dramatic <a href="https://www.lofficielusa.com/beauty/how-to-try-crystal-eyeliner-beauty-trend-euphoria-makeup" target="_blank" rel="noopener">crystal</a> embellished veil trailing the floor behind him.

Overall, this look felt right: it was an homage to <a href="https://www.lofficielusa.com/pop-culture/karl-lagerfeld-young-photos-chanel-fendi-chloe" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Lagerfeld</a>, his revolutionary time at <a href="https://www.lofficielusa.com/fashion/chanel-tweed-bags-jacket-karl-lagerfeld-virginie-viard" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Chanel</a>, and the evolution of his namesake brand. A cross-section of progression, the ensemble represented <a href="https://www.lofficielusa.com/fashion/karl-lagerfeld-archival-lofficiel-interview-photographs" target="_blank" rel="noopener">the late designer</a> at his best.
