Barbiecore: The Pink Outfit Edit
While pink outfits have been popular for some time, the hot pink hue is making a comeback with Barbiecore.
Barbiecore: The essence of channeling your inner Barbie with pink outfits, pink accessories, and well, all things pink. Whether you want to throw in some fun, flirty elements, like feathers or sparkles, to make the look more dramatic, or whether you want to keep it simple, the Barbiecore aesthetic can easily be nailed. As a whole, the idea is to emulate the style of the nostalgic childhood Mattel doll by playing with fun prints, pink outfits, and over-the-top girly garments.
While the Barbiecore trend might seem to be popping up as of late, especially with the buzz of the upcoming live-action Barbie film starring Margot Robbie, this trend is not new. In fact, pink outfits have provided many pivotal moments in the history of pop culture and fashion. There was Reese Witherspoon in Legally Blonde, sporting a monochromatic pink leather outfit and echoing the iconic line, “Whoever said orange was the new pink was seriously disturbed.” The Barbiecore aesthetic showed up on the big screens again in the iconic 2004 film Mean Girls starring Lindsay Lohan and Rachel McAdams, when the high schoolers preached, “On Wednesdays we wear pink.” And even in 2022, with the use of bright pink in Valentino’s collections, the color has been everywhere.

Kim Kardashian has been rocking the Barbiecore pink outfit trend for over the past year. Back in October 2021 for the Saturday Night Live afterparty, Kardashian sported a full-body pink Balenciaga catsuit and a matching, dramatic jacket to accessorize the look. She also wore a full-length pink puffer coat, and paired it with silver accessories to elevate the look.
For the 64th Annual Grammy's, Saweetie nailed the Barbiecore aesthetic. Dazzling in a Valentino pink bra top, matching skirt, and matching gloves, Saweetie channeled Barbie's style in 2022. Also in a Valentino ensemble, Sebastian Stan wore an all-pink outfit to the 2022 Met Gala.
And in 2022, Megan Fox stepped out in a pink mini dress and matching pink heels at Machine Gun Kelly's Hulu documentary premiere. With blonde hair and the simple, yet girly look, Fox captured the essence of Barbie. Khloé Kardashian joined in on the Barbiecore trend, too, after slaying a latex mini dress and pink pumps for her 38th birthday.
And if you're really not a fan of pink, you can still participate in the trend. Opt for lighter, pastel, colors, like lavender and light blue, and fun, retro prints, like Margot Robbie wears in the poster for the upcoming Barbie film. It's all about channeling the essence of Barbie.
