The Met Gala has finally returned, and with it, fashion excellence.

Though it's not the first Monday in May, the second Monday of September will have to do. This year's <a href="https://www.lofficielusa.com/fashion/everything-we-know-2021-met-gala-american-fashion-exhibit" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Met Gala</a> was postponed for obvious pandemic-related reasons, but it seems the few-month gap only gave everyone a bit more time to get their <a href="https://www.lofficiel.at/en/fashion/met-gala-the-most-iconic-outfits-of-all-time" target="_blank" rel="noopener">looks</a> together.&nbsp;
This year's theme was In America: A Lexicon of Fashion, based on an exhibit arguing in favor of America's enduring influence on the fashion scene. This is part one of a two-part show, the second half of which will open on the usual May schedule.&nbsp;
The roster of co-hosts was a bit longer than usual but even more star-studded. It included <a href="https://www.lofficielusa.com/fashion/amanda-gorman-poet-style-prada-moschino" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Amanda Gorman</a>, <a href="https://www.lofficielusa.com/fashion/timothee-chalamet-hosting-2021-met-gala-tom-ford-amanda-gorman" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Timoth&eacute;e Chalamet</a>, <a href="https://www.lofficielusa.com/fashion/naomi-osaka-tag-heuer-interview-tennis-activism" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Naomi Osaka</a>, and <a href="https://www.lofficielusa.com/music/billie-eilish-is-not-your-pretty-little-pop-star" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Billie Eilish</a>. The chairs of the event are less teen-heartthrob, more fashion executives, and consisted of Anna Wintour, the longstanding editor of Vogue; Adam Mossari, an Instagram exec; and designer <a href="https://www.lofficielusa.com/film-tv/tom-ford-movies-nocturnal-animals-director-netflix" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Tom Ford</a>.
Given the unusual circumstances, the guestlist for 2021's event was downscaled, and also skewed a lot younger than it normally does. However, that's in large part because 70 percent of the designers being honored in the exhibition are around the same age as the Millennial and Gen Z attendees.
