Bruce Weber Is Accused of Sexual Harassment

Industry veteran photographer Bruce Weber has been accused of sexual misconduct during a casting call, according to the NY Post. Male model Jason Boyce is suing the photographer over the incident, which allegedly happened three years ago at the photographer's Manhattan office. 

“Mr. Boyce, who had been photographed numerous times in the past, was then subjected to a series of practices by Mr. Weber that were unlike any he had experienced previously,” the suit apparently says. "Mr. Weber grabbed Mr. Boyce’s arm, and moved it back and forth, so that Mr. Boyce was forced to rub his own genitals.” The NY Post also reports that Weber put his fingers in the models mouth and kissed him before leaving. 

Weber has photographed magazine covers for Vogue, Vanity Fair, Elle, and more, but is perhaps most commercially wellknown for his ad campaigns during the heyday of Abercrombie & Fitch. His work frequently glorifies the male form, and he has been a vocal champion of male models. 

The NY Post report is an important reminder — amidst the distressing claims in Hollywood by women — that men, too, can be victims of sexual assault. According to a study by the Department of Justice in 2013, 1 in every 10 sexual violence victims are male. It is also a reminder that sexual misconduct extends far beyond the reaches of Hollywood and Washington (a fact that models like Edie Campbell and Cameron Russell stays in the public's mind).

Weber has yet to comment on the allegations specifically, though his office did recently release the following statement when asked by WWD about a larger New York Times story on sexual harassment in the industry that's rumoured to be on the way: “Bruce believes everyone should, at all times, be treated fairly, correctly and with respect.”
