Givenchy Couture Spring 2018

Clare Waight Keller (formerly of Chloe) just debuted her very first couture collection for Givenchy in Paris. The British designer’s moonlit show was comprised of dark black and blue gowns (often paired with sharply tailored blazers both long and short) embellished with feathers and crystals and some menswear options, too. Below, our show notes for the collection.

Memorable piece —

Look 11, a black turtleneck gown with a floor-length frilled, jewel-toned ombre skirt.

Look 7, a metallic silver dress, trimmed with blue and white feathers or look 24, a milky translucent jacket made of latex.

Things were kept minimal with all focus on the clothes—no accessories, jewelry or bags.

Collection inspiration —

Clare Waight Keller’s pieces were influenced the by the balance of structure and motion—as well graphic tailoring and “the cycles of our moon shimmer in optical adornment,” according to the brand’s show notes. The designer also looked to the glimmering moonlight and the way things appear under it.

Potential trend —

Long latex coats with unexpectedly chic tailoring, in unconventional shades like Yves Klein Blue and peach.

The location —

The show took place inside the National Archives in Paris. Models trailed through multiple rooms while the light was kept low (a reference to the moon) and a spotlight created shadows on the wall in contrast with the chandeliers, which were not on.
