Herm&egrave;s has named <a href="https://www.lofficielusa.com/art/grace-wales-bonner-moma-spirit-movers-exhibition-artist-choice-series" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Grace Wales Bonner</a> as its new menswear creative director. She succeeds V&eacute;ronique Nichanian, who stepped down on October 16 after nearly four decades at the helm. &ldquo;I am deeply honored,&rdquo; Wales Bonner said in a statement. &ldquo;Beginning this new chapter and joining such a lineage of artisans and creators is a dream for me. I express my sincere gratitude to Axel Dumas and Pierre-Alexis Dumas for giving me the opportunity to bring my vision to this truly magical house.&rdquo;
With this appointment, the British-Jamaican designer becomes the first Black woman to lead design at a major European luxury house. A graduate of Central Saint Martins, <a href="https://www.lofficielusa.com/men/wales-bonner-spring-summer-2026-collection" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Wales Bonner</a> founded her eponymous label in 2014, known for its thoughtful blend of tailoring and cultural storytelling. Her work explores post-colonial identity and intellectual heritage.
&ldquo;I am very happy to welcome Grace into our family of artistic directors,&rdquo; said Herm&egrave;s artistic director Pierre-Alexis Dumas. &ldquo;Her contemporary vision of fashion, craftsmanship, and culture will continue to shape the style of Herm&egrave;s men&rsquo;s ready-to-wear, confidently blending her perspective on the times with the house&rsquo;s heritage. Grace&rsquo;s taste and curiosity for artistic practice strongly resonate with Herm&egrave;s&rsquo; creative approach. This is only the beginning of a dialogue that will continue to grow.&rdquo;
Her accomplishments include early recognition at the British Fashion Awards, an LVMH Prize win in 2016, collaborations with Adidas and Dior, and curating the Museum of Modern Art&rsquo;s &ldquo;Artist&rsquo;s Choice&rdquo; exhibition in 2023.
