Hedi Slimane Joins Céline as Creative, Artistic, and Image Director

Much to the excitement and curiosity of everyone.

Ever since Phoebe Philo left Céline to focus on her personal life, we've been wondering who will replace her as the head of the revitalized brand, which she served diligently for a decade. And although we're still sad to see Philo go, it's hard to argue with LVMH's choice for the new "artistic, creative, and image director" in Hedi Slimane.

Slimane, who is only 49, is one of the most loved figures in fashion, having changed the way men dress with his 2000-2007 stint at Dior Homme and then tripling Saint Laurent's profits in under four years. He's won the affections of everyone in the business; something that is made clear by the fact LVMH not only appointed him to the Céline position, but are allowing him to move the classically French brand's headquarters to California. With the announcement comes the news that the Céline brand is also expanding into both fragrance, couture, and menswear divisions.

If the recent changes are any indicator, it seems that we're soon going to start seeing Céline everywhere. Philo and Slimane both have historically had radically different approaches to the feminine, so it should be fascinating seeing the new direction in which the creative director takes the brand. Hedi, we missed you. Welcome back.
