Jean Paul Gaultier Haute Couture Spring 2018
Memorable piece —
Look 22, which was part of a series of monochromatic looks. This one consisted of a bright fuchsia-hued suit and gravity-defying hair (by Odile Gilbert) that matched the color almost exactly.
Remarkable fabric —
Look 47, a jumpsuit made of op art fabrics and hallucinatory paillettes—enough to make anyone do a double take.
Best accessory —
The dizzying array of mod inspired drop earrings in black and white.
Model standout –
Coco Rocha walked her two-year-old daughter down the runway in a matching outfit (with matching hair). The two did a synchronized dance that had everyone in the room on their feet trying to take photos.
Collection inspiration —
Pierre Cardin was the collection’s inspiration. The show notes described it as an homage.
Front row celebs –
Pierre Cardin himself was in the front row. The 95-year-old had camera crews surrounding him before he took his seat, and drag queen Violet Chachki was there, too.
Potential trend —
A revival of ‘60s style, black and white prints and op art illusions on clothing—along with fun shoulder dusting earrings.
