Here’s What Joe Biden, Kamala Harris, and Their Families Are Wearing on Inauguration Day

While President-elect Joe Biden will take office in a sleek Ralph Lauren suit, Vice President-elect Kamala Harris opted for a violet Christopher John Rogers coat.

Today, President-elect Joe Biden's inauguration today denotes a landmark event in American history: Vice President-elect Kamala Harris will be the nation's first female, Black, or South Asian official to serve that position. In honor of this historic event, L'OFFICIEL celebrates the incoming administration with a deep dive into the First and Second Families inaugural emsembles.

It was reported previously that Biden had been collaborating with Ralph Lauren on a chic blue suit, similar to the fitted styles of his former running mate, President Barack Obama.

Biden's wife, Jill, is wearing a custom blue wool coat and dress with, according to Instyle, "a chiffon bodice and scalloped skirt" by Markarian's Alexandra O'Neill. The dress also features "hand-embellished with Swarovski pearls and crystals."

Harris, however, has chosen to wear all Black designers for her Inauguration Day outfit: Christopher John Rogers, a Louisiana-born designer based in New York City, and Sergio Hudson, a young designer out of South Carolina. She also donned her signature pearl necklace in tribute to her Alpha Kappa Alpha sorority sisters.

Emhoff followed the incoming president's lead in a Ralph Lauren suit, while his daughter and Harris' step-daughter, Ella Emhoff, wore a check Miu Miu coat chosen by stylists Jill Lincoln and Jordan Johnson.

Last night, the Bidens join Harris and Emhoff at the Lincoln Memorial to honor the 400,000 U.S. victims of the COVID-19 pandemic. While the photos from the gathering paint a powerful message, Harris and the incoming First Lady also used their choice in clothing to say something less obvious.

Similar to former First Lady Michelle Obama, First Lady Biden, who is set to be the first First Lady to maintain a full-time job while in office, chose to wear a young designer. She arrived in a belted purple coat from Jonathan Cohen's unreleased Fall/Winter 2021 collection. Cohen is an up-and-coming, Mexican-American designer and previous recipient of the CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund. Through his work, Cohen prioritizes sustainability by upcycling discarded fabrics.

Harris, keeping with her theme of wearing Black fashion designers, wore a stunning khaki Pyer Moss coat by the brand's founder Kerby-Jean Raymond.
