Jonathan Saunders, chief creative officer of Diane Von Furstenberg, has announced his resignation 18 months after joining the brand.

Saunders joined the team in May 2016 after heading his own label in the U.K. for 12 years. Known for his ease in marrying vibrant colors with bold prints and innovative textiles, he was the ideal candidate to revamp DVF's signature '70s aesthetic across all platforms from store design to retail.

In his Spring 2017 debut, Saunders successfully offered a timely upgrade of the brand with asymmetric dresses and patches of striking prints. Just last week, he presented the Pre-Fall 2018 collection showing even more ease with brand tradition and values.

The designer's farewell follows Diane Von Furstenberg's announcement of plans to sell equity stake in her business. The brand's future is up in the air.
