On the 48th birthday of the "Killing Me Softly" singer, take a look at Lauryn Hill's ultra-cool fashion.

Legendary <a href="https://www.lofficielusa.com/music/hip-hop-aint-dead-manifesto-2018" target="_blank" rel="noopener">hip-hop</a> and R&amp;B artist Lauryn Hill exploded onto the &lsquo;<a href="https://www.lofficielusa.com/fashion/90s-outfits-celebrity-fashion-making-comeback" target="_blank" rel="noopener">90s</a> music scene with the&nbsp; Fugees, before stepping out on her own with her critically acclaimed (and only) studio album The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill. However, while the <a href="https://www.lofficielusa.com/fashion-week/tom-ford-fall-2020-runway-show-los-angeles-hollywood" target="_blank" rel="noopener">&ldquo;Killing Me Softly&rdquo;</a> singer is praised as a musical genius, Hill additionally came to be known as a bona fide '90s-style star. From embodying the <a href="https://www.lofficielusa.com/fashion/kurt-cobain-90s-grunge-style-impact" target="_blank" rel="noopener">grunge</a> look, experimenting with color and shape, and incorporating <a href="https://www.lofficielusa.com/fashion/skinny-jeans-are-dead-denim-trends-of-old-are-taking-over" target="_blank" rel="noopener">denim</a> into a variety of looks, Hill daringly self-defined her style, while simultaneously providing ample inspiration for her fans. 
While Hill never went on to create another album, she continues to perform occasionally, but mostly lives outside of the public eye. She has six children, five of which she shares with Rohan Marley, including model Selah Louise Marley.
Although Hill has ducked out of the limelight, her music and style influence continues to be heard and seen today. In Hill’s natural habitat (on stage) she wears quintessentially ‘90s cargo pants and an oversized turtleneck, accessorizing her look with oversized sunglasses, hoop earrings, and matching silver bracelets for a 1990 performance. 

A true ‘90s style icon, in 1996, Hill sports a pair of denim dungarees over a simple black t-shirt, alongside band-mates Wyclef Jean and Pras. 

Wearing bright yellow, a knit skirt, and her favorite accessory, a hat, Hill performs with the Fugees in 1990. 

In 1994, Hill is photographed alongside band-members in her style staples: a hat and hoop earrings, with a white denim jacket. 

Alongside Shaquille O’Neal and Whoopi Goldberg, Hill attends the MTV Movie Awards in Los Angeles in 1996 wearing a light pink set with a belly chain.

Dressed in a white suit, Hill radiates girl-boss energy in 1996 at the Radio City Music Hall for the MTV Music Awards. 

 In 1997, photographed with Brandy, Wyclef Jean, and Rita Marley at the 39th Annual Grammy Awards in Los Angeles, Hill sports a printed coat, over a simple, yet classic brown two piece set.

At the American Music Awards, Hill wears a casually oversized grey blazer over a royal blue embroidered gown in 1997.

At Madison Square Garden in New York, the singer opts for a red and white dress with a matching red choker. 

 Music genius Hill wears a red dress, white clunky shoes, neck scarf, and a blue baseball bomber jacket to the ‘98 Billboard Awards at MGM Grand in Las Vegas. 

Hill, pictured alongside boyfriend Rohan Marley, son of Bob Marley, wears a patchwork leather blazer over a classic combination of a white t-shirt and jeans to the 1999 Source Hip Hop Music Awards in Los Angeles.
