The house honors its leatherwork heritage with a new capsule collection inspired by its most iconic bags.

The story of Loewe—the second oldest fashion house—begins in 1846, with a collective of Spanish artisans crafting small luxury leather goods in Madrid. German merchant Enrique Loewe Roessberg unified the workshop in 1872, establishing the house’s name and paving the way for its ­first store on Calle Príncipe two decades later.

Favored by royalty and appointed official supplier to the Spanish Royal Crown in 1905, Loewe steadily built its reputation on exceptional craftsmanship and a quietly innovative approach. Women’s Ready-to-wear arrived in 1965 alongside its ­first runway show; by the 1980s, the brand had launched its cultural arm, the Loewe Foundation, and expanded globally with stores on London’s Bond Street and on New York City’s Fifth Avenue.

That same spirit of evolution shaped the maison’s accessories. Introduced in 1975, the Amazona—Loewe’s ­first named bag—reflected the needs of a new generation of working women. For the label’s 180th anniversary, Creative Directors Jack McCollough and Lazaro Hernandez revisit the structured silhouette as the softer, slouchier Amazona 180 and deliver a capsule collection that also reimagines the Flamenco,­ first launched in 1984 and later revived by Jonathan Anderson in 2015. Emblazoned with lion motifs—a nod to the German translation of Loewe—the designs honor the house’s heritage while underscoring its instinct for reinvention.
