Celebrity-Favorite Brand Maisie Wilen is Ready to Take Over Fashion
If you haven't heard the name Maisie Wilen, it's time to learn about this up-and-coming label that's been taking over Instagram and the fashion world. After spending three years working on Yeezy's viral collections, designer Maisie Schloss received Kanye West's first-ever designer incubator grant, destining her for major attention as she started her solo line. After an exclusive friends and family debut in Los Angeles, the first Maisie Wilen collection officially launched with a Pre-Spring 2020 collection in Paris on June 20, and from that point forward, everyone knew the name of the young creative behind the colorful, form-fitting looks every it-girl has been wearing. Naturally, the Kardashian-Jenner sisters are big fans, with Kim, Kendall, and Kylie each rocking looks by the new contemporary label, but the styles have also shown up on talents of the moment like Megan Rapinoe, Camila Mendes, and Jorja Smith.
With the lively patterns and interesting cuts of Schloss's designs, it's easy to see why so many celebrities are obsessed. The debut collection takes inspiration from rhythmic gymnastics and robotics, with ergonomic, flowing lines and elegant fluidity that emerge from ultimate rigidity and calculated systems. The brand has a standout look thanks to its rich textures, prints, and playful yet sexy silhouettes, making it perfect for an oversaturated modern world and ever so mesmerizing to watch as it rises. The designer's debut subtly references her Yeezy background while incorporating her own style and talent, allowing her to capture lasting attention before the public even has a chance to purchase her designs—until the collection hits the market in November, Maisie Wilen's star power gets its fuel from pop-cultural appeal.
Get to know a bit more about Schloss as she talks with L'Officiel USA about her inspiration, style icons, and hidden talent.
What inspired you to start your own brand?
Starting my own brand is something I've always dreamed of doing. Kanye's offer of support was the sign it was officially time.
Other than Kanye obviously, who would you say has been your biggest support system as you grow your brand?
My friends! I'm very fortunate to have a great group of friends who are not only talented but are also so supportive and always willing to help.
Did you always know you wanted to be a designer from a young age?
Yes—I like to say I've been grooming myself for this since I was 12.
Who has been your style icon through developing your brand and why?
I have a group of icons who I love for having a truly personal style, which includes Dolly Parton, Kim Kardashian West, Nudie Cohn, Lady Miss Kier, Bjork, Yayoi Kusama, and Grace Jones.
You've had so many celebrities wear your brand in such a short time. Who have you been most excited about?
I've been lucky to have some amazing talent request for Maisie Wilen and I've truly been honored by every single one. That said, North West was particularly exciting for me. She's a style icon at six!
What's one thing about you that most people don't know?
I'm an excellent baker. Carrot cake and peach pie are my specialties.
When you aren’t working in the studio, what is it that you do for leisure?
Thrift shopping, going to the beach, hiking, or watching a movie.
Who is the typical Maisie Wilen woman?

No way.
What can we expect to see next for Maisie Wilen?
My pre-fall collection, which will show in January 2020.
