The designer steps beyond her family legacy, building Maccapani and creating clothes that move with modern life.&nbsp;

Fashion runs in Margherita Maccapani Missoni&rsquo;s DNA&mdash;but she&rsquo;s never been one to simply follow the blueprint. As the granddaughter of Missoni founders Ottavio and Rosita, she grew up immersed in one of fashion&rsquo;s most recognizable visual worlds, yet her career has taken a deliberately more fluid, multidimensional path. From studying philosophy in Milan and New York to exploring acting, design, and entrepreneurship, Margherita has built a practice that extends far beyond the family name.
After holding roles within Missoni, including accessories director and later creative director of M Missoni, she&rsquo;s since carved out a space entirely her own&mdash;launching collaborations across fashion, interiors, and lifestyle, and now focusing on her latest venture, Maccapani. The label reflects her signature approach: pieces that feel as intuitive as they are refined, merging Italian craftsmanship with a modern, body-conscious sensibility.
Ahead, Margherita opens up about legacy, independence, and what it means to design for a woman constantly in motion.

LO: As the granddaughter of Ottavio Missoni and Rosita Missoni, how did growing up around such a distinct visual language shape your own approach to design?
MMM: I&rsquo;m well aware that my true heritage lies there, in the rich and singular aesthetic I was brought into. But it was always more than an aesthetic; it was a way of life that put life itself first, without ever taking away from the research of beauty and details in it.
LO: After years within the Missoni universe, what did building something entirely your own unlock for you creatively?
MMM: I actually did not work at Missoni full-time. I came and went a few times, and often worked independently, mostly unlicensed. The only other time I had a brand of my own was a children&rsquo;s wear line called Margherita Kids.
Creatively, I like to work within specific boundaries and constraints, so I don&rsquo;t mind working on existing brands with their own peculiarities and history. But it is certainly very different to be an entrepreneur, because of the responsibilities we become aware of, which inevitably also affect creativity.
LO: How would you describe the DNA of Maccapani in three words?
MMM: Comfortable, feminine, and chic.
LO: Who is the Maccapani woman, and how does she move through the world?
MMM: The Maccapani woman is someone who leads a full life, nourishing all aspects of it, from her family to her workplace to her social life. Hence, she runs a busy life on the go and wants to look good and put together while doing it.
LO: These pieces for Spring/Summer 2026 feel incredibly close to the body, almost like a second skin. How do you think about the relationship between fabric and movement?
MMM: The fold of the fabric is kind of magic to me, and I like its variations for different reasons. This collection is based on functional fabrics that follow movement and the body, which is really the core DNA of the brand, so our research and innovation is always in that direction, creating materials that are meant for a gala but that you can almost do yoga in.
LO: What excites you most about this next chapter for Maccapani?
MMM: I&rsquo;m very excited about our first retail space. It&rsquo;s a house of the brand where you can find our curation, which is such an important part of our identity, taking on a physical role. It&rsquo;s also a place where the aesthetic and legacy of the brand come through visually, without any need for explanation.
