The Finnish design house and the New York-based artist worked together to create a captivating collection that embodies the connection between art and fashion.&nbsp; &nbsp;

<a href="https://www.lofficielusa.com/fashion/brands-to-know-from-copenhagen-fashion-week" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Copenhagen Fashion Week</a> visitors were greeted with bright colors and unique prints this week as <a href="https://www.lofficielusa.com/fashion/pride-month-2022-fashion-collections" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Marimekko</a> revealed its colorful Spring/Summer 2023 collection, alongside a special capsule collection with New York-based artist Landon Metz.&nbsp;&nbsp;
For Marimekko's Spring/Summer 2023 collection, the floral prints, in both light and dark colors, like <a href="https://www.lofficielusa.com/shopping/grapefruit-pink-outfits-fashion-style-shopping" target="_blank" rel="noopener">pink</a> and navy, instantly drew viewers in with their large shapes and fun color combinations. Printed atop billowing, voluminous silhouettes, the prints demanded to be seen&mdash;instead of giving off a more delicate presence, which is so often associated with <a href="https://www.lofficielusa.com/fashion/floral-fabrics-fall-winter-2021-fashion-trend" target="_blank" rel="noopener">florals</a>.&nbsp;
In the new collection, the Finnish design house explores "the crossing between technology and craft"&mdash; which is especially prevalent in our ever-growing technological world&mdash; while also touching upon neo-futuristic, or avant-garde influences.&nbsp;&nbsp;

&ldquo;For Spring/Summer 2023, Marimekko&rsquo;s archetype silhouettes take a more dramatic appearance. Architectural structures are seen mimicking organic material, which in turn take an almost 3D-printed aesthetic,&rdquo; says Marimekko&rsquo;s Creative Director Rebekka Bay.&nbsp;
 <a href="https://www.marimekko.com/us_en/our-world/marimekko-journal/rebekka-bay-appointed-marimekkos-creative-director-and-member-of-the-" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Bay,</a> who was appointed creative director and a member of the management group in 2020 after having served on Marimekko's Board of Directors since 2017, continued, &ldquo;The modern application of broderie anglaise and lace-like structures bring a feminine, but also very neo-futuristic aesthetic to our 70-year-old legacy.&rdquo; 
Reds and navy colors, as well as pops of orange and yellow, also filled the collection. Additionally, wave-like prints and vertical <a href="https://www.lofficielusa.com/beauty/history-of-stripes-in-fashion" target="_blank" rel="noopener">stripes</a> that seem to veer off into eternity contributed to the collection's overall aesthetic.&nbsp;

But these <a href="https://www.lofficielusa.com/fashion/pantone-color-of-the-year-2022-periwinkle-spring-summer-runways-fendi-saint-laurent-miu-miu-2021" target="_blank" rel="noopener">periwinkle</a> blues and bubblegum pink patterns, which give off the essence of a lazy, spring day, weren&rsquo;t the only garments Marimekko presented at CPHFW. The brand also revealed a capsule collection with Landon Metz.&nbsp;
The New York-based <a href="https://www.skny.com/artists/landon-metz" target="_blank" rel="noopener">artist</a> is known for his use of abstract shapes and canvases that transcend space and borders due to their repetitive and fluid nature. While the artist is currently being featured at Sean Kelly Gallery in New York, he has showcased his work in cities and countries throughout the world, including Norway, Denmark, Italy, and Canada.&nbsp;

The capsule collection, comprised of four dresses, three tops, a skirt, as well as some accessories with Metz's prints, aims to mimic his typical, minimalistic artwork&mdash;only on a garment, instead of a canvas. With a similar color palette of warmer blues and cooler reds, the capsule collaboration further enforces the idea that <a href="https://www.lofficielusa.com/art/new-young-artists-to-watch-2022-gallery" target="_blank" rel="noopener">art</a> and fashion are often inextricably linked.&nbsp;
&ldquo;It's important to me that my work is conscious of the viewer, my intention is that their experience is both intellectual and embodied," said Metz. &ldquo;Collaborating with Marimekko has been a way to articulate a counter shot to the dye and canvas works &ndash; literally wrapping the viewer in the image, and further blurring the boundaries between the visitors&rsquo; proximity to the canvases and the canvases themselves. For the wearer, it is a personal expression, but also an inward narrative and experience.&rdquo;&nbsp;

Copenhagen visitors can also visit the collection in person at the Marimekko experiential space, Marimekko Kreative. Launched in 2021 in collaboration with studio x, Marimekko Kreative unites the fashion and design world with the Copenhagen community. Aside from showcasing the new collection, themed events and exciting affairs, which have yet to be announced, are also scheduled for the coming months.
