The Best Met Gala Bathroom Selfies
Because who doesn’t love a good bathroom selfie on a night out?
Every first Monday of May, the fashion world is abuzz as celebrities put forward their very best themed looks to attend the annual Met Gala in honor of the costume exhibit at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City. While we see all the best-dressed celebrities as they enter the red carpet, what goes on inside remains a mystery. The gala has a strict no-photography and social media rule once attendes are inside, but there's always a bathroom selfie or five that manages to evade the rules.
This year, the event will take place on May 6 to celebrate the Costume Institute's "Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion," exhibition, which will be open to the public from May 10 to September 2, 2024. The exhibition spans over 400 years of history and will include designs from Elsa Schiaparelli, Yves Saint Laurent, Christian Dior, etc. The dress code is "The Garden of Time"—inspired by J.D. Ballard's 1962 short story with key themes of fleeting beauty and time. Expect to see many elegant, floral designs next month worn by your favorite celebrities—the invite list so far includes Rihanna, Jennifer Lopez, Bad Bunny, and Chris Hemsworth as co-chairs, and Olivia Rodrigo, Cara Delevingne, Barry Keoghan, Gisele Bündchen, and rising stars Lily Gladstone and Ayo Edebiri as some of the attending guests.
While we're used to seeing these celebrities give their best poses on the red carpet, there's only a limited view of what goes on past the extravagant steps. The first Met Gala bathroom selfie was taken in 2017 by no other than Kylie Jenner—the iconic photo includes A$AP Rocky, her sisters Kendall Jenner and Kim Kardashian, Paris Jackson, Frank Ocean, and Brie Larson. Since then, it's become a tradition amongst the guests, with everyone implementing their own take on it each year.
