For her latest premiere, the Australian-American actress kicked off the house's newest period with a bewitching look.

Last year, multiple designers such as Matthieu Blazy, Louise Trotter, and Jonathan Anderson made their debuts at Chanel, Bottega Veneta, and Dior on the <a href="https://www.lofficielusa.com/fashion/designer-debuts-at-venice-film-festival-versace-dior-bottega-veneta-chanel">2025 Venice Film Festival</a> red carpet. From the curved three-button motif featured on Ayo Edebiri to the lovely bows seen on Greta Lee and Monica Barbaro, the red carpet has become a hub to hint at what's to come for a designer house.
When fashion icon Nicole Kidman made her way to the Practical Magic 2 premiere in Los Angeles Monday evening, she helped designer Pieter Mulier soft-launch his reign at Versace. From the minimalistic silver jewelry to her signature smile, the enchanting asymmetrical gown was simply perfect.
Back in February, Prada Group and Versace announced that the Belgian creative would take over as creative director in July. The news came about when former creative director Dario Vitale left the brand after eight months and one collection in December 2025.
At last year's Venice, Julia Roberts and Amanda Seyfried sported matching blazers, striped button-ups, thin black leather belts with a gold buckle, and blue jeans, which marked Vitale's first pieces for Versace.
This year, Kidman stunned in a sheer, black lace gown while posing with co-stars Sandra Bullock, Maisie Williams, and Joey King. The dress also featured a high-low hemline and plunging sculpted bodice, which was paired with a matching choker and a pair of sorceress-approved pumps.
Mulier has a track record of not just holding deep appreciation for brands but also invigorating historic houses, as he did at Alaïa for five years. With Kidman's look, he looks back to Versace's legacy of being unapologetic, boldly glamorous, and high-octane sensual. Let's just say, this new era looks familiar, fabulous, and fresh, all at once.
Even though the game of creative director musical chairs is calmer than last year, the act of making a debut for a house on the red carpet is not going anywhere. With Mulier's debut collection scheduled for February 2027, the anticipation surrounding what direction he will take Versace in continues to grow.
