Chaotic times call for chaotic skirts at Prada.&nbsp;

There&rsquo;s something about patchwork that feels particularly well suited to an unstable moment. With our minds in overdrive and a relentless stream of disquieting news arriving daily, it&rsquo;s almost inevitable that what we wear begins to reflect the experience of stepping outside each day&mdash;held together, somehow, by grace.
For Spring/Summer 2026, Prada is leaning into that sense of chaos&mdash;and its refinement&mdash;through a pair of paneled skirts that turned heads the moment they hit the runway, and understandably so. Because each garment is, in effect, several skirts in one, shifting vantage points reveal entirely different silhouettes. And yet, despite clashing fabrics, contrasting colors, and asymmetrical lengths, these fragmented panels are reconciled into a single, fluid composition through rigorous pattern-cutting at the maison&rsquo;s atelier.

The complexities of draping are explored first in Look 8. A black duchesse pleated panel anchors the front of the waistband, its controlled fall engineered to support the joining of varied fabric weights.

Crystal-embroidered orange crepe panels extend along the sides, while the back unfolds into a three-tier cascade of intricately constructed blue taffeta ruffles. Finished with a grosgrain belt, the voluminous skirt is meticulously pressed to preserve its deliberately off-balance form&mdash;a necessary step, indeed, following 27 hours of craftsmanship.

After its own 19-hour assembly, Look 37 is similarly cinched with a grosgrain bow. Here, the focus shifts from drape to material interplay, with four distinct fabrics creating a dialogue between lightness and structure. At the front of the skirt, sheer black lace overlaps with structured pale yellow taffeta, the latter detailed with two rows of gathered ruffles, hand-applied at the hem.
The back introduces a crepe de chine panel shaped with gathers and tucks, while at the hip, a gray pleated poplin insert features an intentionally imperfect crinkle&mdash;each pleat is top-stitched by hand, then ironed and pressed to achieve a disrupted finish. Subtly unsettled, yet ultimately composed.
