Pyer Moss Fall 2018

Kerby Jean-Raymond, the designer behind Pyer Moss, presented another incredible collection that touched on politics and opened up the conversation on activism in fashion. It was also the debut of the collection’s Reebok collaboration, available later this year.

Memorable piece —

Look 41, an all-white outfit styled with an oversized Americana scarf with stripes and stars.

Remarkable fabric —

The leather jackets, in particular, look 6; an earthy brown moto jacket with layered pockets in different colors.

Collection inspiration —

The designer was inspired by the word “cowboy” and its different iterations, meanings and cultural contexts as well as imagery of the black Western/cowboy actor Bill Pickett. It was also the first time Jean-Raymond did womenswear, although women have been wearing his covetable menswear pieces season after season. And finally, the designer’s major collaboration with Reebok was revealed on both genders—the first modern fashion collaboration for the sneaker brand.

Potential trend —

Cowboy hats and red, white, and blue.

Standout moment—

The label is known for having a performance element during the show, and after taking a break from NYFW last season, everyone was waiting to see what Pyer Moss would do next. A gospel choir sang while the audience sat captivated. They sang Kendrick Lamar’s “Alright”.
