Parisian Brand Satisfy Running Goes Punk with Clothing Inspired by The Clash
Satisfy Running's new sustainable collection Run! Punk Run! celebrates The Clash frontman Joe Strummer's ultimate embodiment of punk—in his music, activisim, and unlikely running habit—with the help of archival work from Rolling Stone photographer Steve Rapport.
The collection includes organic and recycled cotton moth-eaten T-shirts and muscle tees inspired by Strummer's DIY race gear at the 1983 London Marathon, as well as singlets, shorts, and accessories like bandanas and caps. The neutral-colored selection is brought to life with pops of fuschia that reflect Strummer's punk approach of doing the unexpected.
Satisfy Running worked with Rapport to sort through his expansive archive, uncovering never-before-seen images of Strummer in his running element. As well as serving as inspiration for the collection, these photos of Strummer appear as exclusive prints on tees and singlets.
For Strummer, running was a personal activity used to reflect and create, but it also was a vehicle for activism. The musician used his marathon run as an opportunity to raise money for leukemia research. In homage, Satisfy Running's campaign for Run! Punk Run! highlights three runners whose activism intertwines with their sport.
