However, though a distinctly modern woman, Gomez has a casual, breezy, and versatile air about her—making her the perfect spokeswoman for Puma. In a new campaign for their Cali Remix shoes, which drop August 15, the brand draws upon the rich aesthetics of the '70s to follow up its Cali Collection.
In the campaign, Gomez lingers by a cream-and-chrome hot rod in a matching tracksuit as her hair, easily embracing Farrah Fawcett waves, dances around large hoop earrings. Within this visual moment, the actress and pop star best known for her astronomical Instagram following has entered a time almost fifty years back, in the days long before social media. Adding a pop of color to her monochromatic ensemble are Puma's latest kicks in a rose and maroon colorway. The collection also features two other options: a black-and-white pair with hot pink heels, and a black base with turquoise toes and tan trim. The unconventional color combos couldn't match the unorthodoxy of '70s style any better, and the pairs also meld suede, leather, and patent leather for an eclectic mix of fabric textures. Because in the '70s, more was more.
Gomez's relaxed outfit in the campaign is also a standout, proving a girl can look just as good in a pair of sweatpants and sneakers as a designer skirt and heels. The Selena Collection includes a wide-leg sweatpant and loose, over-the-shoulder sweatshirt as a testament to Gomez's CBB attitude.
