Coach's Stuart Vevers Distinguished on King Charles III Birthday 2024 Honors List
The mention on the Birthday 2024 Honors List marks a historic occasion, as Vevers is the first creative director of an American fashion house to receive the distinction.
Ahead of the annual Trooping the Color procession—an event that fêtes the British sovereign's official birthday—the British Crown announced the Birthday 2024 Honors List, approved by King Charles III. Stuart Vevers, creative director of Coach, was included on the list and has received full honors as an Officer of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire.
“I’m honored to receive this award from King Charles,” said Vevers. “The connection between my home country, adopted country and creative pursuits brings everything I’ve worked for—and that is important in my life—together.”
Born and raised in Yorkshire, Vevers studied fashion and design at the University of Westminster—one of the UK's most prestigious higher education programs in fashion—before graduating in 1996. The British designer then moved on to hold design positions at some of the foremost luxury labels of the world, including Calvin Klein, Louis Vuitton, Givenchy, and Bottega Veneta. Prior to his appointment as creative director of Coach in 2013, Vevers acted as the creative director of Loewe and Mulberry—an iconic British luxury brand.
“Stuart’s creative leadership has been essential to Coach’s evolution as a brand and to who we are as a company,” said Coach CEO and Brand President, Todd Kahn. “Importantly, this recognition also honors Stuart’s contributions to the fashion world at large and to culture as we know it, and we believe Stuart is just getting started. All of us at Coach are very proud of him today.”
A mention on the Birthday Honors List and an appointment as an Officer of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire is one of the highest distinctions from the British monarchy. As the creative director at Coach, Vevers has also redefined the luxury accessory and garment industry with a focus on sustainability, keeping younger generations in mind in both his approach to environmental consciousness and youthful, invigorating designs.
