Taylor Swift's Best Fashion Moments From Every Tour Era
Serving as all the style inspiration you need for The Eras Tour.
Taylor Swift's sold-out Eras Tour is in full motion, officially kicking off its European leg on May 9 in Paris. Including Midnights, Swift has 10 fashion and music eras to choose from, each with its own distinct style and aesthetic. This leaves fans with the ultimate challenge of deciding which is the best era to pull from when attending the concert (or when watching the new Disney+ concert film Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour). To help make the decision a little easier (or honestly, probably harder), L'OFFICIEL looks back at Swift's best performance looks from each tour era.
Taylor Swift
For those who have been a Swiftie since day one, grab your cowboy boots and hair crimper. Swift's debut country era was supported by signature pieces such as midi dresses, sequins, ruffles, and flowy silhouettes. While she didn't go on a headlining tour for Taylor Swift, she promoted the album through performances at award ceremonies and was the opening act on tour for Rascal Flatts.
Fearless
Swift's country pop album Fearless marked her first headlining tour. While the sequins and cowboy boots were still present, Swift began to incorporate a little bit of romantic and whimsical elements into her wardrobe. It was here that the singer started sporting her now signature affinity for heels, but she still maintained her sweet, youthful style.
During The Eras Tour, Swift wears gold and silver fringe dresses with lots of sparkle paired with shimmery boots, reminiscing the gold aesthetic of the Fearless album, that came out in 2008.
Speak Now
In 2011, Swift began her Speak Now era which was one of the highest-grossing tours in the world for the year. Her style pulled from the past as she rocked the stage in a whimsical fashion and slightly '50s-inspired dresses.
Now, she's seen wearing full gowns to perform, looking back at the purple dress she's wearing on the album's cover—and, of course, Speak Now's fairytale aesthetic.
Red
Red marked Swift's preppy and twee fashion moment. You could find her wearing a lot of high-waisted shorts, blunt bangs, bold red lips, striped shirts, oxfords, and, well, the color red.
She's seen wearing an ombré black and red jumpsuit at The Eras Tour, which is a different style compared to previous years, but very fitting to the Red album. Swift also wears a stunning sparkly red coat along with her guitar for the 10-minute version of her iconic song All Too Well.
1989
As her first official pop album, Swift debuted a fresh new look for 1989. The singer traded out sweet for city girl pop star as she took the stage in skater skirts, matching sets, and crop tops—all accessorized with her chic bob cut.
She is now seen wearing a blue custom Roberto Cavalli two-piece set for this era. Similar to all the sequins she wore at the 1989 tour, this look has the whole stage sparkling.
Reputation
For her 2018 Reputation tour, Swift entered her edgy fashion era. Embodying snake vibes and displaying revenge fashion to a T, Swift showed her dark side by wearing lots of black, leather, and darker lips.
This style continues on stage at The Eras Tour. Now it's even more elevated—Swift appears in a red and black assymetrical bodysuit, showing the fierceness of the Reputation era.
Lover
Swift's "Lover Fest" tour may have been canceled, but she still had her notable style moments from the album era. A complete turn from her previous darker Reputation fashion, Lover was also all about bright colors, bold prints, and anything pastel.
Now, she brings the iconic custom Versace sequined bodysuit to the stage, which many fans have recreated in the past months. Her custom (and very sparkly, to say the least) Louboutins also join her iconic Lover look onstage.
Folklore
Due to the pandemic, a Folklore tour also never happened, but her fashion was very much cottagecore. The simple, niche aesthetic was her most pared-down look compared to previous eras.
At The Eras Tour, Swift wears multiple flowy Alberta Ferretti dresses, meant to capture the delicate flow of the Folklore songs.
Evermore
As the sister album to Folklore, Evermore has a very similar style aesthetic—toned down and simplistic, and relatively minimal.
Swift wears a custom orange dress performing at The Eras Tour, highlighting Evermore's woodsy, cozy vibe while she sings and plays the piano.
Midnights
Midnights is all about seventies fashion glam. The singer-songwriter released the album a few months before the start of The Eras Tour, revealing a brand new era to be celebrated. In her tour, Swift wears a custom Oscar De La Renta dark blue bodysuit covered in fringe and sparkle, emphasizing the extravagance of the album.
