These looks and statement pieces dominated the fashion scene in the 2010s, and while they may be out of the spotlight now, their impact is unforgettable.&nbsp;

It's 2011, Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week is underway, and all around NYC, young fashion editors are schlepping garment bags and hailing cabs in their wedges and Ray-Ban Clubmaster shades. Early editions of the iPhone were taking the world by storm, and the era of dressing for Instagram was just beginning. With Fashion Month just around the corner, we want to circle back to some of the most memorable trends that defined the 2010s, whether we like them or not.&nbsp;
Fashion enthusiasts forever reminisce about the <a href="https://www.lofficielusa.com/fashion/carolyn-bessette-kennedy-90s-style-wedding-dress-jfk-jr" target="_blank" rel="noopener">minimalism</a> of the 90s and the <a href="https://www.lofficielusa.com/fashion/destinys-child-floral-bustier-bra-low-rise-jeans-outfit-mtv-icon-tribute-2001" target="_blank" rel="noopener">glamour</a> of the early 2000s, but the moment we hit the 2010s, trends began to take a quirkier turn. And just when we began to rest easily, knowing clashing neons, statement chains, and graphic sweaters were behind us, the trends of the 2010s began to sneak back into the zeitgeist. It makes sense, too, as social media has rapidly sped up the trend cycle, which has traditionally been around 20 years. So, while fashion it girls have been rocking bandanas in their hair, as though it were 2005, many popular corners (cough cough indie sleaze) of the internet have already been looking to revive the 2010s for a couple of years.&nbsp;
The <a href="https://www.lofficielusa.com/fashion/indie-sleaze-aesthetic-2010s-trend-comeback-era" target="_blank" rel="noopener">indie sleaze</a> craze has been around now for some time, and we have well documented the rise of neon wayfarers, fedoras (sigh), and the American Apparel look. We want to focus on how the unserious approach to dressing and style put a spell on the fashion industry, rather than just a subculture of hipsters. The McDonald's logo became high fashion, thanks to <a href="https://www.lofficielusa.com/fashion/jeremy-scott-fashionable-friends-moschino-miley-cyrus-katy-perry" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Jeremy Scott's</a> time at <a href="https://www.lofficielusa.com/fashion/adrian-appiolaza-moschino-facts" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Moschino</a>, and <a href="https://www.lofficielusa.com/fashion/fendi-spy-bag-relaunch-campaign-amelia-gray-gabbriette" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Fendi</a> made waves with their fluffy monster keychains. And while fashion purists may scoff at the era, no one can say it wasn't fun.

The Fendi Monster era paved the way for the current bag chain craze, where cute monster-like motifs like the <a href="https://www.lofficielusa.com/fashion/labubu-doll-trend-bag-charm" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Labubu</a> continue to dominate. Though times are different, and the internet quickly turned a trend like Labubus into a seemingly unavoidable, hyper-manufactured, brain-rot style piece that looks like it exists to be online.
While Fendi Monster keychains were able to remain somewhat of a luxury, they did help define an era of dressing dedicated to dressing for social media. The early 2010s were the beginning of the style blogger era, where people like Leandra Medine Cohen and <a href="https://www.lofficielusa.com/fashion/chiara-ferragni-divorce-revenge-dress-return-to-social-media" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Chiara Ferragni</a> gained lots of traction online for sharing their outfits. Style was no longer something dedicated to impressing oneself or their social circle, but rather strangers on the internet as well.
With a simple "#modeloffduty" post on social media, anyone in an oversized white tank and skinny jeans could gain what felt like supermodel status. And now, as fashion influencers are treated as marketers and given a similar status to big names within the editorial fashion industry, dressing for the internet has become not only the norm but the expectation.&nbsp;
Aside from bag charms, another trend that has had a massive revival recently is <a href="https://www.lofficielusa.com/fashion/isabel-marant-wedge-sneaker-bekett-trend" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Isabel Marant's wedged sneakers</a>. Throngs of Gen Z fashionistas have been stalking resale websites or crossing their fingers that their mom has a pair from prior years in the back of the closet. Laced heels, whether they were sneakers or not, were a staple of the 2010s, and thanks to Gen Z fashion influencers, they have made a big return. Bonus points if some iteration of a Y2K <a href="https://www.lofficielusa.com/fashion/mary-kate-olsen-wine-stained-balenciaga-city-bag-2000s" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Balenciaga City Bag</a> makes the outfit, as Gen Z has also claimed the iconic handbag as one of the year's biggest trends. We can only wonder when the <a href="https://www.lofficielusa.com/fashion/maya-wigram-phoebe-philo-daughter-runway-model" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Phoebe Philo</a> era <a href="https://www.lofficielusa.com/fashion-week/celine-spring-summer-2026-runway-images-michael-rider-debut" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Celine</a> Luggage Tote that ruled the 2010s will land with the next generation.
There is a scale of gaucheness when it comes to 2010s dressing, from McDonald's sweaters to white tank tops, but regardless, they all have a place in fashion history. So, keep scrolling to discover some of the best style throwbacks from the 2010s.
