Lois Lane, the investigative journalist and Clark Kent's love interest in Superman, has been played by a number of notable actresses since the first&nbsp;Superman film premiered in 1978. Margot Kidder was the original Lois Lane in the Superman&nbsp;film franchise, as she starred in Superman I, II, III, and IV: Quest for Peace from 1978 to 1987. She was also known for the 1979 film The Amityville Horror, though her repeated role in the&nbsp;Superman&nbsp;movies is what really cemented her as a successful career actress. Kidder struggled with mental illness for a large portion of her life, as she was diagnosed with schizophrenia. In 1990, she was left partially paralyzed after a car accident on set, which greatly tarnished her career. She went through periods of homelessness, but despite her hardships, she remained a strong advocate for destigmatizing mental health issues. Unfortunately, the actress took her life in 2018, at the age of 69, but her legacy as Lois Lane has not been forgotten.&nbsp;

Kate Bosworth played Lois Lane in the 2006 film,&nbsp;Superman Returns, the long-awaited reboot after decades without a new Superman movie. After her breakout role in the 2002 film Blue Crush, Bosworth's portrayal of Lane was one of the bigger moments in her career. Since then, she has starred in the 2014 movie, Still Alice, alongside <a href="https://www.lofficielusa.com/film-tv/julianne-moore-female-relationships-december-2024-issue-interview" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Julianne Moore</a>.

Amy Adams had a long run playing Lois Lane in both Man of Steel in 2013 and&nbsp;Batman vs Superman: Dawn of Justice.&nbsp;The Academy Award-nominated actress also played the role in the 2017 film Justice League , which brought together all of the iconic DC characters. Most recently, she starred in the 2024 movie&nbsp;Nightbitch, which earned her a Golden Globe nomination for Best Actress in a Comedy or Musical.

Rachel Brosnahan is the newest Lois Lane in&nbsp;Superman (2025), but many likely recognize her as Midge Maisel in the television series The Marvelous Mrs.&nbsp;Maisel&nbsp;(2017-2023). She won both an Emmy and two consecutive Golden Globe awards for her role in the series, proving she most definitely has what it takes to step into the iconic character of Lois Lane.
