Claire Foy Says She Feels 'Exploited' When Filming Sex Scenes
The star of A Very British Scandal revealed that sex scenes are her least favorite part of being an actress.
Claire Foy, the protagonist of the controversial and acclaimed series The Crown, recently revealed in an interview what aspects of her job she doesn't like, which includes filming sex scenes.
After playing the role of Queen Elizabeth II, the Emmy-winning actress will now star in the series A Very British Scandal, the upcoming series which tells the true story of Margaret Campbell, Duchess of Argyll. The series will explore the nude photo leak in 1963 that destroyed Campbell's reputation, which means there were a number of intimate scenes involved in filming.
Foy shared how upset she was at certain times during the recordings. "It's a really tough line, because basically you feel exploited when you're a woman and you have to have fake sex on screen. You can't help but feel exploited," she said.
"It's bleak—it's the bleakest thing you can do," she added.
The actress continued, “You feel exposed. Everyone can make you try not to feel that way, but unfortunately, it's reality.” Despite this discomfort, the actress said that with the changes in the industry, she learned to speak for herself and for others. “I can only speak from personal experience, and not as some kind of cultural revolution, but I feel like there is now a space and acceptance that I would never have,” she said.
