While 2020 posed a number of problems for the film and television industry, the newly announced 2021 Emmy Award nominations are celebrating the best that TV had to offer over the last year. Several of the <a href="https://www.lofficielusa.com/film-tv/biggest-tv-shows-streaming-netflix-2020-emily-in-paris-the-undoing" target="_blank" rel="noopener">year's biggest shows</a> like <a href="https://www.lofficielusa.com/film-tv/bridgerton-netflix-costume-designer-ellen-mirojnick-interview" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Bridgerton</a>, <a href="https://www.lofficielusa.com/film-tv/best-hair-moments-film-tv-winter-2021-netflix-emily-in-paris-bridgerton" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Lovecraft Country</a>, <a href="https://www.lofficielusa.com/film-tv/lily-collins-filming-emily-in-paris-season-2-netflix" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Emily in Paris</a>, and more were nominated to no one's surprise, however, one of the more significant takeaways from the list is <a href="https://www.lofficielusa.com/film-tv/pose-best-fashion-moments-final-season" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Pose</a> actress <a href="https://www.lofficielusa.com/film-tv/indya-moore-digital-cover-story-2019" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Mj Rodriguez</a>. Her Supporting Actress nod makes her the first transgender performer in Emmys history to score a nomination in a major acting category.
Netflix's <a href="https://www.lofficielusa.com/film-tv/the-crown-season-four-fashion-princess-diana" target="_blank" rel="noopener">The Crown</a> and the hit Disney+ series The Mandalorian led the pack with 24 nominations each. Other top-nominated shows include <a href="https://www.lofficielusa.com/film-tv/marvel-wandavision-bridgerton-netflix-audience" target="_blank" rel="noopener">WandaVision</a>&nbsp;(23),&nbsp;<a href="https://www.lofficielusa.com/film-tv/handmaids-tale-season-4-worth-watching" target="_blank" rel="noopener">The Handmaid&rsquo;s Tale</a>&nbsp;(21),&nbsp;Saturday Night Live&nbsp;(21),&nbsp;Ted Lasso&nbsp;(20),&nbsp;Lovecraft Country&nbsp;(18),&nbsp;<a href="https://www.lofficielusa.com/film-tv/the-queens-gambit-season-2-anya-taylor-joy-netflix" target="_blank" rel="noopener">The Queen&rsquo;s Gambit</a>&nbsp;(18), and&nbsp;Mare of Easttown&nbsp;(16). SNL's Bowen Yang is also the first in the cast to be nominated as a featured player.
However, in a shakeup to previous years, <a href="https://www.lofficielusa.com/film-tv/gossip-girl-reboot-breaks-hbo-max-streaming-records" target="_blank" rel="noopener">HBO</a> made out with the most nominations at 130, surpassing streaming giant <a href="https://www.lofficielusa.com/fashion/the-clothes-tell-the-new-series-netflix" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Netflix</a> which totaled at 129.
The 73rd Primetime Emmy Awards will be hosted by Cedric the Entertainer. The ceremony is scheduled to air on September 19, 2021 on CBS and be available to stream on Paramount+.&nbsp;
