The ‘Home Alone’ House is Back on the Market
Kevin McCallister’s family home is for sale for the first time in twelve years.
The famous house used as the setting of the beloved holiday movie ‘Home Alone’ is on the market again, listed for $5.25 million in the Chicago suburb of Winnetka, Illinois. This is the first time the house has been on the market in twelve years.
The outside of the house, a beautiful brick Georgian home, looks exactly the same as it did when Kevin McCallister was left behind from the family vacation, fending off burglars with clever tricks. The interior has been renovated for a more upscale, sleek style as opposed to how it was displayed in the movie with a nineties style of cozy rugs and red patterned wallpaper.
With five bedrooms, six bathrooms and nearly ten thousand square feet of space, the home would be a playground for any kid left to their own devices. Located right next to Lake Michigan and just a quick drive away from Chicago, the mansion is in an ideal location for people who want access to city life and nature.
The home has a number of amenities, including an indoor basketball court and a movie theater that pays homage to the home’s reputation with a ‘Home Alone’ poster and a large Lego figurine of Kevin McCallister.
Though the exterior of the house still carries plenty of nostalgia, fans of the movie will notice that the interior doesn’t resemble the movie. Of course, the house has been totally renovated over the years, but more importantly, the movie didn’t actually film inside of the house. Even though the interior shots were based on the actual house, due to the size of the house and the necessity for a large camera crew, interior shots in the movie were filmed at a local high school: New Trier Township High School.
In 2021, the current owners of the house turned their home into a temporary Airbnb and fully decorated the house to resemble the movie for the holiday season. People had the chance to live out their ‘Home Alone’ dreams for one night only and enjoy the house just as they remembered it, tacky wallpaper included.
