Janet Jackson had a life surrounded by happiness, success, and controversy. But it looks like the singer is finally ready to tell her side of the story with the help of a new documentary. Last weekend, the star shared the trailer for her new project, dubbed Janet, in celebration of the 40th anniversary of her debut album.

Throughout her career, Jackson has tried to keep her personal issues backstage as much as possible. At one point in the film, she is asked, "You've been very private about your personal life so far. Why would you want to make this documentary?" and responds with, "It's just something that needs to be done."

The five-Grammy Award winner will discuss her emotional struggles as she rose to fame, her relationship with her brother Michael Jackson, and the backlash she received after her controversial 2004 Super Bowl performance with Justin Timberlake.

The trailer for the documentary features a number of major celebrities like Missy Elliott, Mariah Carey, Ciara, Whoopi Goldberg, Samuel L. Jackson, Janelle Monáe, and Paula Abdul, all of whom share their personal anecdotes about Janet's impact of their lives and careers.
