To celebrate its 20th anniversary, the erotica magazine had KKW channel Japanese thriller "Perfect Blue."

Kim Kardashian&#39;s sex appeal may be exactly what has made and kept her famous, but it remains as compelling as ever on her latest cover. For the A9 issue of Richardson,&nbsp;which coincides with the magazine&#39;s 20th anniversary, Steven Klein photographed the beauty icon in a concept inspired by Japanese adult anime thriller&nbsp;Perfect Blue.

The star poses topless for the shoot, recreating memorable scenes from&nbsp;Perfect Blue, which is also celebrating its 20th anniversary. One photo is a bird&#39;s-eye view of a nude Kardashian face down in a bathtub, and another mixes inspiration from underwater and mirror imagery using a fish tank.

The photos are at once erotic and contemplative, reminiscent of the anime&#39;s exploration of voyeurism and the dark side of fame. Clips from the film once showed up in a remix of Madonna&#39;s &quot;What It Feels Like for a Girl&quot; video during her Drowned World Tour in 2001, and Kardashian seems like a fitting choice to bring the imagery back, thanks to her sex appeal as well as her transformation into a more understated beauty icon.

Kardashian is also a fitting subject to reappropriate&nbsp;Perfect&nbsp;Blue&#39;s imagery as she&#39;s lately been taking a lot of inspiration from Japan. The obsession led her to travel there with sisters Kourtney and Khlo&eacute;, which in typical fashion led to drama, as she called them clowns for wearing touristy looks. More recently, the star came out with a cherry blossom collection for KKW Beauty, showing that even if the family bonding aspect of her trip didn&#39;t stick, the natural Japanese beauty certainly did.&nbsp;

After breaking the internet in so many different ways, Kardashian achieves a new balance between her sex appeal and more artsy side through the&nbsp;Richardson&nbsp;cover, with the added bonus of getting to further explore her current love for Japanese culture. Maybe the shoot&nbsp;will renew interest in&nbsp;Perfect Blue, but undeniably it helps to further cement its subject&#39;s place as a modern beauty icon.
