Get a First Look at Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's Netflix Docuseries
The highly anticipated royal docuseries is coming to Netflix sooner than you think.
The favorite royal couple Meghan Markle and Prince Harry are set to release a docuseries on Netflix soon. The long-awaited series focusing on the Duke and Duchess of Sussex will be directed by Liz Garbus, a well-known documentary filmmaker whose works include What Happened, Miss Simone?
Since the announcement of the docuseries, there's been a lot of drama surrounding the production. The non-fiction project's release date has been pushed back multiple times, according to Deadline, in light of both Queen Elizabeth II's death and the premiere of The Crown Season 5. The rumors and speculations of the show abound in the lives of the Sussexes, resulting in a circus of questions about whether there would be a docuseries and when will we get to see it.
As we wait for one of the most talked about releases of the year, here is everything we know about Harry and Meghan’s highly-anticipated docuseries, titled Harry & Meghan, which is set to release Volume 1 on Netflix on December 8 followed by Volume 2 on December 15.
What will the series cover?
Meghan and Harry will be the main subjects, and it will depict their story. Early in the summer, the Duchess of Sussex spoke with The Cut, explaining that the series is less of a reality show and more about their "love story." She called the show “the piece of my life I haven’t been able to share, that people haven’t been able to see."
According to Page Six, Netflix and the Sussexes were at odds on what the docuseries would show. Meghan and Harry wanted to edit and cut footage, causing issues with their own production team. “Harry and Meghan are having second thoughts on their own story, on their own project,” a Netflix source told Page Six. According to reports, the royal couple's hesitancy stemmed from the recent passing of the Queen as well as the ascension of Harry's father, King Charles, and stepmother, Queen Consort Camilla, to the throne.
Judging by the documentary's new trailer, the project offers a behind-the-scenes look at the couple's life away from the paparazzi cameras as well as the couple's firsthand account of their journey.
Who is the director?
The couple brought Oscar-nominee filmmaker Liz Garbus to direct the project. Garbus was behind the lens of many well-known projects, such as The Farm: Angola, USA. The award-winning director also worked on public films about public figures including Love, Marilyn about Marilyn Monroe.
In her Variety cover, when asked about her docuseries and the director behind the work, Meghan said, "It’s nice to be able to trust someone with our story—a seasoned director whose work I’ve longed admired—even if it means it may not be the way we would have told it. But that’s not why we’re telling it. We’re trusting our story to someone else, and that means it will go through their lens.”
