A new season of Ryan Murphy&rsquo;s hit anthology Monster has officially arrived. From deep-diving into disturbing research of killers past, Murphy and co-creator Ian Brennan have set their eyes on the infamous serial killer Ed Gein.
But, as Murphy tells it, one crucial piece fell into place almost instantly: casting Charlie Hunnam as Ed Gein. &ldquo;It was the easiest &lsquo;yes&rsquo; I think I&rsquo;ve ever gotten in my career,&rdquo; Murphy recalls to Netflix&rsquo;s Tudum. Monster: The Ed Gein Story is based on true events, exploring Gein&rsquo;s life in rural Plainfield, Wisconsin, between 1947 and 1957. The series traces how Gein&rsquo;s relationship with his mother, Augusta, shaped his descent into violence and grave robbing.
The season doesn&rsquo;t just recount his crimes but also investigates Gein&rsquo;s profound impact on pop culture. His horrific acts inspired some of the most iconic villains in film history, from Norman Bates in Psycho to Buffalo Bill in The Silence of the Lambs.
