Photographer Alana O’Herlihy, with her cadre of fashionable friends (Gigi and Bella among them), is an industry one to watch. In 2017, her work appeared on Vogue, V Magazine, and i-D. Elsewhere, on Instagram she documented every step of her international travel. If you were keeping up, you’d be hard pressed to find the line between her business and pleasure.
Making a home base out of the East Village, Alana, with her multi-media work, is single-handedly bringing the raw edge, exuberance, and grit back to the now-gentrified neighborhood that once boasted Basquiat, Ginsberg, and Madonna as residents. Scrolling through her Instagram, @lilmami_lani, it’s not hard to trace her references; they’re often chopped up, cut out, and collaged. They transcend decades, genres, and media.
Vowing, in 2018, to focus her lens on the “hot boys” she meets throughout her travel, Alana is flipping the script, reclaiming the male gaze as female and giving men a taste of their own medicine.
Here, she takes Jegor Venned, the Faroese model fronting Tom Ford’s current ad campaign, to the Museum of Sex (naturally). And gives him her list of questions inspired by Andy Warhol, but with a twist all her own.
