Kicking off Paris Fashion Week, the French luxury label's collection is one of the most anticipated shows this season.

Amid an extreme heat warning in Paris on opening day, <a href="https://www.lofficielusa.com/fashion/yves-saint-laurent-photography-exhibition-nyc-vintage-retro-archival-fashion-photos-dates-location" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Saint Laurent</a> brought a hazy yet refreshing breeze to Paris Fashion Week with its latest menswear collection. Designed by creative director Anthony Vaccarello, the show explores the idea of refusal amid the desire for more attention, noise, and drama.
"Nobody is trying to seduce you. What makes them seductive is that they do not need to," said <a href="https://www.lofficielusa.com/fashion/anthony-vaccarello-runway-history-saint-laurent" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Vaccarello</a> in the show notes. The notion of restraining oneself as a form of seduction is transformed into 41 looks that tie back to the same ethos: The luxury of absence. Figures such as Tina Chow, Marguerite Duras, and Mr. Ripley not only served as inspiration for the Belgian designer but also emphasized the forgotten art and beauty of the unknown.
At the center of the runway was Cloud #07156, a fog sculpture by Japanese artist Fujiko Nakaya that featured water-based smoke and became an active force during the collection. The 16-minute borderless work of art is currently on display at the Bourse de Commerce in Paris, where the collection took place. But it easily melted into the dialogue between longing, existence, and unattainability.
The show opened up with a model wearing a high-cut beige jacket that featured three gold buttons with black and silver embellishments, a matching pair of flat-fronted high-waisted trousers, a thin brown belt, and jelly-pointed dress shoes. Accessories such as aviator-style sunglasses, leather briefs, and a wide array of high-gloss shoes paired well with sheer mesh-tops, colorful nylon windbreakers, and slim-fitting suit vests.
Even as the sculpture continued to appear, disappear, and reappear over the course of the show, the collection's soundtrack easily brought a dimension of optimism to the label's signature neutral-toned suits, vests, and ribbed V-neck sweaters. Created by longtime collaborator of the brand and French producer SebastiAn, the collection's soundtrack brought out the mystery, intrigue, and elegance of staying in your own lane.
The use of gold in a blazer, trench coat, and ribbed-knit sweater was a lovely touch to round out the season's offerings, especially since it goes beyond its luxury status and turns into an exceptional, practical piece throughout the show. As models walked back onto the runway for the finale, the haze continued to grow in size before Vaccarello thanked the crowd for attending the spectacle.
Sitting in the front row were friends of the house, such as Madonna, Charli xcx, Kate and Lila Moss, Connor Storrie, Austin Butler, Debi Mazar, Yung Lean, Rami Malek, Daisy Edgar-Jones, Jaafar Jackson, Arca, Gabbriette, Amelia Gray, Kento Yamazaki, Chen Zheyuan, Ahn Hyo-seop, and James and Martin of CORTIS, among others.
With a stellar collection like this, it deserves a tremendous celebration that is sure to take over our feeds. Club Confessions / Club Saint Laurent, the invite-only afterparty hosted by Madonna and Vaccarello, will have DJ sets by Stuart Price, Arca, Chloé Caillet, and Louise Chen &amp; Lil C at Paris' Paradis Latin. Needless to say, this collection is ready to confess the night away with a star-studded crowd on Tuesday night.
