Charli XCX Releases New Track with Tove Lo and ALMA
UPDATE: Charli XCX has released "Out of My Head" featuring Tove Lo and ALMA. POP 2 will be released in full on December 15.
Pop music savant and party girl extraordinaire Charli XCX is set to disrupt your Best Albums of 2017 lists with a new mixtape: Pop 2 (there is no Pop 1). The record, still awaiting a release date announcement, is chock full of your favorite “alt pop” (we say "alt" because radio won’t recognize their brilliance) artists.
In a tweet this morning, Charli confirmed the title, and a stellar lineup of features from Tove Lo, Alma, Brooke Candy, MØ, Carly Rae Jepsen, cupcaKKe, Mykki Blanco, and more. The announcement comes after Charli teased a hypothetical mixtape with features from the artists above. A rumored tracklist circulating Twitter has been further legitimized after today’s tweet.
Earlier this year, Charli released her radio hit “Boys,” which saw an accompanying, self-directed video featuring some of pop culture’s most recognizable men. The campy video successfully flipped the male gaze and satisfied the singer’s Spice Girls-lifted girl power mantra.
Pop 2 follows 2017’s Number 1 Angel, which also saw features from MØ and cupcaKKe. Neither release is Charli XCX’s announced third-studio album.
