It's a sad time for music, as Dolores O'Riordan, Irish lead singer of The Cranberries, has passed away at age 46. O'Riordan brought glimmers of light to generations when the band's hits "Zombie" and "Linger" skyrocketed them to fame in the 1990s, and the songs have not gone out of circulation since. The frontwoman, with her short hair and rockstar appeal, also provided a model for scores of young women who may have not fit (or wanted to fit) the standard definitions of femininity. She had a wide influence, and will be sorely missed.
No information as to cause of death has been released, but we know it is being treated as "not suspicious," and that the singer was in London for a recording session when it happened. Our hearts go out to her family, friends, and fans at this difficult time.
