Caitlyn Jenner Tears Into Trump’s Leaked Proposal on Trans Rights
Earlier this week, the New York Times published a story leaking the Trump administration’s plan to redefine gender.
According to the Times, the docu-memo on trans-rights defines gender “on a biological basis that is clear, grounded in science, objective and administrable.” Ultimately defining a person’s gender based on their genitalia.
Individuals in both the private and public sectors voiced their outrage, among them reality TV star Caitlyn Jenner. Speaking to People on Wednesday, she explained:
“The Trump administration has ferociously attacked my community again. Just as an FYI Mr. President— the military is the single largest employer of trans people in the world. This leaked memo is an unacceptable attack on my community…We will not be erased!”
A lifelong Republican, the former Olympian athlete, and current trans-rights activist has received both support and criticism for her various political stances throughout the years—particularly regarding women’s and LGBTQ rights.
On her show, I Am Cait, she engaged in a heated debate defending Trump’s political views. On another occasion, she voiced sentiments which came off as indifferent towards gay marriage.
While it is fair to say Caitlyn has definitely tried her hardest to engage with the trans-community, many (Including myself, a long time Caitlyn Jenner fan.) wonder if these leaked documents will force the Olympian to reconsider her political affiliations.
