In recent years, all eyes have been on Indya Moore. The young trans actress and model has barreled through Hollywood with the intention of addressing LGBTQA+ issues and shows no signs of stopping. Moore, who was born in New York, left her childhood home at the age of 14 after being rejected by her unaccepting family. Soon after she was discovered as a model, she began to work with major designers and ultimately ventured into the world of acting. Her success within the industry is an indicator of a changing attitude towards marginalized groups and a movement towards inclusion. However, Moore continuously reminds us that there is much more work to be done.

Pose, the TV series in which Moore stars, depicts the drag ball culture of the late 1980s and early 1990s. Moore’s character, Angel, is a trans sex worker navigating a world plagued by institutional prejudice. Angel is similar to Moore in the way that they fiercely persist in the face of adversity. The opportunity to play a transgender person is something that Moore believes should be only afforded to those with the same identity. She fervently advocates for representations of trans people that are accurate and reflect the real life challenges that they experience. On her 26th birthday, join L’OFFICIEL in celebrating Moore's activism, style, and success.

Modern Day Wonder Woman

Moore, photographed for Vogue India, wears a skin-tight bodysuit with a sculpted bodice and draped detailing. After sharing the image on Instagram, commenters were quick to draw comparisons to uniform of Wonder Woman. The association is perfect as Moore undeniably embodies the superhero's mantra, "I will fight for those who cannot fight for themselves.”

Ruling the Runway

Jason Wu Spring/Summer 2021

This past September Moore had her runway debut opening Jason Wu's New York Fashion Week Show for his Spring/Summer 2021 collection. This career highlight is not only important to Moore's advancement as a model but also reflects how trans representation is becoming more and more common in mainstream fashion.

Nicolas Ghesquière's Muse

Moore, pictured at the 2019 Emmy Awards, wears a stunning Louis Vuitton gown by Nicolas Ghesquière. Designed especially for her, the dress is representative of major brands recognizing trans bodies. While rocking her beautiful curls and revealing her long legs, Moore reminds us that beauty is genderless.

A Voice for Change

Moore never fails in using her Instagram platform to call for change. During the unnerving 2020 election, Moore pushed for people to consider how marginalized lives would be impacted by the outcome of the election.

Body Autonomy

Moore is unafraid to express her own autonomy when it comes to her body and the clothes that she wears, but not without recognizing the fervent scrutiny she, and all other trans people, are subject to. During an exclusive interview with L'OFFICIEL in 2019, Moore says, "Anytime somebody wants to mention an LGBTQ or trans person, it's to scrutinize us. It's to exacerbate our vulnerability or to judge us. It's never to acknowledge the violence that we're put through for existing." Moore believes that fashion is a means through which trans people can take their bodies back and fight against the harmful gaze.

Posing with Pride

Pictured alongside fellow Pose stars MJ Rodriguez and Dominique Jackson, Moore attends the 2019 New York City Pride Parade while rocking a rainbow-colored ensemble. Pose is incredibly important to the LGBTQA+ community as a groundbreaking show that features the most trans actors ever in a TV series.
