Young Photos of Kamala Harris
In celebration of all Kamala Harris has done, L'OFFICIEL looks back at young photos of the politician.
Before Kamala Harris became the first female Vice President of the United States, she was the daughter of two immigrants trying to find her place in this world. Harris’s passion for politics began at a young age, as she was given early exposure to activism by observing the fights against social injustice. Being an African American and Indian woman, the politician grew up with deep cultural roots. As a young adult, she continued to appreciate her culture as a student at Howard University.
She went on to obtain her law degree from the University of California, Hastings, and began her climb up the political ladder after being elected as the District Attorney of San Francisco in 2003. Harris’s devotion to being the change she wanted to see has led her to break barriers in the political world and claim positions such as California’s Attorney General and Senator of California. Now, Harris has taken on one of the largest political roles in the country as the Vice President of the United States for President Joe Biden. As the first woman to ever hold such a position, Harris serves as an inspiration for women and minorities across the country. As said in her 2020 acceptance speech, “While I may be the first woman in this office, I won’t be the last.”
As it turns out, Harris may just be the first woman in the Oval Office as well. After numerous celebrities and fellow Democrats called for President Joe Biden to drop out of the 2024 presidential race, Harris stepped up to the plate and quickly gained traction as a serious candidate. In the face of racist and misogynistic insults from her opposition, Harris has remained committed to her goal of clinching the presidency for the Democratic party alongside her running mate, Minnesota governor Tim Walz.
In honor of all Harris has accomplished, L’OFFICIEL is taking a look back at photos of the politician from her earlier years.
